That's county dependent like you alluded to. Some counties will revoke your NY permit as soon as they find out that you no longer reside in NY, others have no issue with it and simply have you update your address on file with the county clerk to your new out-of-state address.
You're correct...
Getting slightly back on topic, per the NYS DMV application instructions (form ID-44) the only requirements to obtain a NY non-driver ID are:
Proof of citizenship or lawful status
For a Standard document (not a Real ID or Enhanced document), proof of residency is not required.
There is no age...
Supposedly FTWNY has received approval from someone at the NYSP for their course and will provide the info if you ask them, but that's just what I heard. In any case, $575 is insane. MD requires a 16 hour course + live-fire and most of the classes are $300-350. The places that price gouge are...
If your schedule is flexible you can take advantage of people who cancel their appointments. I've been able to snag an appointment as quickly as the next day by periodically checking the appointment website throughout the day. There's at least several cancellations a week.
Awesome! About time! I'm curious to hear how long doing it via mail takes because I was going to try amending via mail, but I was able to purchase a CZ online, have it shipped to my FFL, and be at the range shooting it in under a week by snagging an amendment appointment cancellation that opened up.
I don't believe that you are actually required by state law to notify the issuing agency of a change in residence.
The penal law states:
Notification of any change of residence shall be made in writing by any
licensee within ten days after such change occurs, and a record of such
change...
Crazy! I'm pretty surprised that you haven't received a letter in the mail yet considering your references were called before mine. I actually received my permit last weekend—it only took 320 days!
Someone else on Reddit who applied in March said that their references were contacted...
Most likely, but because there isn't a licensing system in place yet for rifles, you wouldn't even be able to purchase a semi-auto rifle until that system exists (I didn't see any stipulation in the bill about a system having to exist in order for this bill to go into effect). Who knows how long...
Your post must have sent me some good luck because my references and I were called this morning haha. They must have had a big 'ole stack of applications sitting there that they're now going through. Now we hurry up and wait a little bit more...
That's exactly what it shows. The person that posted that timeline tried to edit his post to remove the fact that he had his "sheriff buddy" push his application ahead in the queue, so I called him out on it because I didn't want other people thinking that his timeline was a realistic timeline...
To add some salt to the wound, today someone shared their Monroe County pistol permit timeline on the NYGuns subreddit:
Application turned in @ Clerks office & Fingerprinted @ Sheriffs Office on November 12, 2021
References called February 25th, 2022 (Pushed along by Sheriff buddy)
Letter of...
Thanks! I'm honestly a little surprised (although I probably shouldn't be) that it's taking this long to even get past the calling-of-references stage. Today is day 225 for me and still no phone calls. From what I've read, it's not unusual for it to take several months after your references are...
