When I applied you had to buy a handgun and show the receipt on the application all the while the gun is sitting at the gun shop. Well I figured out a way around that and had a friend list the gun on his permit and he picked it up from the gun shop. We went to the range quite a bit and he would bring the gun and I'd shoot it, come deer season we went to 'the camp' and we hunted and I carried the gun. At lunch time we headed back to the truck parked on the road side (no cabin back then) and was eating sandwiches when a NYS trooper and DEC cop pull up! They checked the shotguns in the truck and hunting licenses but never said anything about the gun in the holster on my hip or permits. We had a good laugh about that later!

what Im hearing now is, the "clock starts" AFTER the sheriff gets your finger prints back from the FBI ( or where ever they go) , now it could take the Sheriff 6 to 8 weeks to send your prints off to, where ever? The FBI may take another couple months to run your prints? Then upon return of said prints the Sheriff has ( Technically) 6 months to approve or deny your application.
How true all that is? who knows what excuse they come up with now-a-days.
And to be honest, every interaction I have had with law enforcement when I had my guns on me, were no big deal. Actually, every one really couldn't careless I had a handgun

Aside, it would be nice if they at least had an app to tell you where you are in the process.

My friend got his in less than 4 months just before covid. I'm not sure what it's taking now. Don't be afraid to politely call the office every few weeks and ask for any updates on the application. Kill them with kindness.

So we are a mear 30 days in as of today, Saturday October 23, 2021. Not much expected at this point as its been stated it may take 9-16 months to process.
As of now, no references have been contacted nor have i been called to be interviewed, and nothing was expected to have occurred by now anyway.

Playoff beard update- not a hair trimmed( face or top of head) since applying as promised. Beard length is around 3/4", and not looking to bad if i may say so myself lol. Sadly ive begun to see the returns on top of my head diminish from my younger years, with the start of a thinning top but fuller on the sides.
Guess i will have a horseshoe mohawk ( somewhat) going forward. Think Steven Wright in the long run. Guess i might change my profile pic going forward to represent it lol.

I am beginning to look disheveled. Borderline homeless. A cardboard sign and a freeway off ramp are the only distinguishing differences. This has led me to do further research as to the "rules ". After reading many different articles ( wikipedia and others) i have found different nuances to the entirety of it. Taking all things into account i have found my source.

1) Near the eyes at the top of your cheeks. Necessary for vision. ( this was a relief)
2) Base of the neck. Necessary to keep for chest hair entanglement ( and avoiding Wolfman syndrome, another relief)
Additionally it is acceptable to trim following a loss to change the luck of the team, but alas this has no bearing in this scenario.
So, following these rules ( also posted on the NHL website in an article regarding the Anaheim ducks from 2014) trimming will commence.
Objections written post this will be duly noted and taken into consideration: )

Another non update- Saturday marked 135 days since the application was given. In theory, based upon thier own estimation of 9-16 months for a decision, that marked halfway to the shortest time estimate of 9 months. 240 will be the midpoint to the longest estimate.
As of today, still no references contacted nor have I been called. Until 150, signing off.
Ps- despite having to attend a funeral for my brother in law Saturday, I maintained my pledge of no shave nor haircut. I had considered trimming it up, but surprisingly my wife, who is somewhat uncomfortable about guns, encouraged me to leave it as-is.

I'm sorry to hear that this keeps dragging and I'm also sorry for your loss.
The best advice I can give you, if you aren't the type to call them and try to find out (I don't recommend that btw) is to try and put it out of your mind. Or if you have a friend on the force or something, perhaps they could try and find out.
Anyway, I hope you get good news on it soon!
Welcome to the unfortunate party! I too am a suburban applicant. Please feel free to utilize this thread to post updates on the progression of your permit or lack thereof. I look forward to hearing how your situation compares to my own. Pulling for you brother.
Additionally, if you have read all the above posts, I can share that not shaving or getting a haircut since dropping off my application will leave you looking disheveled, all the while knowing you still have a long way to go.

Day 150. Just another day at this point. A place marker in time. 5 months. No references contacted nor have I been contacted. Beginning to believe this won't occur at the short end of the estimate of 9 months due to the additional processes that must occur after original interviews ( judges time on desk ECT).
Conversely, my son, who lives in Colorado, applied for and received his concealed carry permit in 14 days. Additionally, it only took 14 days due to confusion with his prints. Would have been faster if not. An example of what freedom should be.
The beard may get trimmed/ cut off at month 9. I will have satisfied my obligation to my word by having it for the length of time of the shortest estimate. Where I work temps can get to be 100° in the summer. There is making a statement then there is just plain stupidity, of which I will not participate in the latter. I waffle on this quite a bit, but I have months to consider it ahead of me.
