2017 archery kills thread.

Figured I'd start a 2017 archery kill thread.

Story: So some who know me personally know the dumbest/weirdest stuff happens to me all the time. Well I was pumped for this bow season because my father officially retired Friday and him and I will now be able to hunt more often together. So him and I went out this morning to sit a couple stands I hung. I had a nice doe come in around 7:30, about 18 yards. She was quartering a bit more than I thought she was and my shot was a little farther back then intended. She turned and ran and I saw my arrow hanging out by the opposite rear leg. Waited about 30 minutes and got down. Blood trail looked good, found the arrow saturated in good blood. Saw what I thought was the deer and made my way towards her, then slipped and fell back while going down a steep hill (@NY Leatherneck has seen this happen before). She jumped up and ran towards the river, I followed immediately as she wasn't moving well. She went ass over tea kettle down a bank and into the river. She was dead when I climbed down the bank and floating down stream. She got hung up at a blow down and I had to make my way out/ lasso her to get her in. Not was it a pain in the ass and had some stank . Here's a pic of her hung up.

Definitely a pain in the ass, but the main thing is you found it and was able to harvest it.

A few years ago while I was back in New Yorkistan I was goose hunting with my two sons. We were set up at the wood line that was between a corn field and the Susquahanna River when some geese came in to the decoys. We shot a couple of them and one landed about twenty feet up in the crotch of a tree. We found a long stick with a small crotch to knock it out.

Yeah, unfortunately the wallkill river is a dumping ground for many.

2. Since it was suicide, do you keep your tag?

Dumping trash is a Country wide problem. I can see taking tree debris out in the woods to dump. It will rot after a few years and gives small birds & animals a place to seek shelter.
But tires, roofing, building materials and other garbage, Four Get About It!

Three good days of hunting before I took this old girl. Saw deer on every “sit” except Monday afternoon. Took a shot at a nice spike on Monday morning that was deflected by a phantom branch, ugh. Was feeling down, but Orion never fails me (He was high and straight above me Tuesday morning when I headed out).

Saw a bunch of deer at this stand Tuesday afternoon prior to ole’ mama stepping out juuuust a bit to far ahead of her kids. Yeah, I take does with kids. I’m a meat hunter. Always have been, always will be. Sue me. Lol

Just killed a bottle Jim Bean Devils Cut hurt my back and shoulder and I can't draw back my bow.
We I guess gun or nothing this year.

I have a recurve I've been itching to hunt with for a few years now. I never get enough practice in to feel confident enough to take it ......side note, woods been slow around by me. Not a lot of movement at all.

Look, I’m surrounded by 2 daughters, a step daughter and my wife constantly. Hunting is my only break! I almost die every year waiting for it to come.
