Way way fewer shots this year than last. I'd say less than half

We have alot more hunters down here this year. On opening day from 7am-720 I heard about a dozen shots. We always get the guys shooting early.
There were 6 vehicles parked at the 1100 acre stateland near our property. Usually there are 2-3 vehicles.
This is just one end of the stateland, most hunters use the other end.

Yikes. That's kinda good though. We need more people hunting so it doesn't become a distant memory and antiquated.

Almost half the shots I heard, 17 of them were before sunrise.

Saw one little doe hanging around the edges of the backyard yesterday but thats it.

I have guns ready to go as needed if something presents itself but I dont know that I'm even going to bother going out this year much if at all.

I’m going Friday afternoon until Saturday. I have a DMP for 9P so I hope to get one. It’s hard to get one for that zone. I also have one for 9A but there isn’t much land to hunt in 9A and it’s a popular spot with a large gold course and plot of private land across the street. I think they head over there pretty quickly.

I’m in Scio NY. Well that’s where I hunt if I can. It’s not far from Alfred state college.

That’s why I stopped hunting for years. My dad and I were walking in the woods to hunt for an after lunch run and a huge buck(didn’t know it at the time) ran through some pine trees on a property boarder I was hunting. I had it all lined up but didn’t take the shot because I had no doe tag and couldn’t identify it. A guy eating lunch on his camper front porch saw the deer and just went blasting away at the deer. He fired seven shots. My dad was about 5-6 feet away from me and yelled get the fuck down and get behind a tree. He could hear the rounds wizzing over and around his head I could not. I was 16 and never heard him say the f-word before. I remember hiding behind a tree laying down with my shotgun pointed in the guys direction and asking my dad you want me to fire a few back? My dad was unarmed as usual. He said no so I refrained. Apparently it was a large 8 point we heard about. I don’t think my dad or anyone else ever said anything to the guy. I stopped hunting for 20 years after that.

Ten years ago my girlfriend called me at work and said there were gun shots VERY close to the house. We own all the land around our house so I went home to check it out. There were 2 holes in our house. Somehow the bullets didnt make it into the house. I never found out who did it. No snow on the ground to track them.

Just heard a barrage of about 12 shots all from the same general direction. I can't even fathom a circumstance that would justify or explain that.

I feel bad for the guy who works at Tink's that has to follow the does around with those little bottles....

I did opening day til Monday over near Windham.Very few shots fired all 3 days.I saw a bear cub and had a chance at a 6 pointer.It was a little out of what I consider pistol range and I was about a mile and a half from the nearest logging road.Its been many years since I wanted to drag a deer that far.Hell, I use a pistol cause I dont want to have to walk 100 yds to pick up a deer,lol.Lot of shooting over here in Columbia Co.My friend Nick and his wife have a couple and my neighbor up the hill was shooting about midnight last night,I assume theres a dent in the coyote population today.

I had my Glock 20 with me just in case I has a shorter shot.
But the 2 does I got were about 50 yards so I used the shotgun.
If they were within 30 yards I would have used the 10mm.

Ahhhhh, the spray and pray method of deer hunting.
I used to work at my buddies deer processing shop.
I skinned the deer.
You wouldnt believe some of the beaten carcasses people brought in.
The worst was a 14 year old girls first derr. It was a 130lb doe with 9 slug holes in it that we could find. I told her father he might want to get her some professional help.
She had the blood lust look in her eyes and 2 blood battle marks on each cheek.....obviously applied by her dad.

I once did a mag dump into a tree to divert a group of running doe’s towards one of my sons and his buddy They we’re moving way to quick for me to even try. It worked...somehow

Had a little fork horn come to our apple tree this morning. He didn’t come fully into the yard, but the kids really enjoyed being able to watch it for a while.

Sat and watched nature again today. Well, not so much nature as looked at the trees. Saw one ant, a tiny spider and a bunch of ticks.
