Feel your pain. At 275 there's not a lot of positions I can achieve for comfort. If I had a little more notice I might have been able to sneak into a standing position and maybe brace against the tree. Was just a bad situation all around. I felt I had a good broadside shot at a reasonable distance but my rest could've been better.
I had a big doe within 50 feet of me and I had no idea... Until I moved to itch my nose. Then she took off. A bit embarrassed to admit that. With all the leaf litter I was sure I'd hear anything close. Nope.
Hit one at 4:20 yesterday afternoon a nice 8 we got blood but couldn’t find it, it went onto the neighboring property into an area loaded with thorns and wild rose not fun to move in the dark. My son is up there looking with a buddy now unfortunately I had to be at work today. It was trotting behind a doe I personally think I lead it to much and just hit muscle. If not hopefully they find it
Tree stand hunted for the first time yesterday. Saw about 8 does and fawns (3 were probably repeat), a few coyotes, a ton of squirrels, and a black housecat. Let all the does go since it's opening weekend. Two of my buddies got an 8 pt and a 6 pt. Extremely quiet today. Haven't even seen a squirrel.
I saw two had a shot at one yesterday but wasn’t sure it would kill the deer. I held off on the trigger and let it pass hoping I’d climb the hill and see them at the top. No go. Saw nothing else. Saw a few other hunters and no one shot anything on my hill. I’ll be back next weekend. Taking today off.
One reason I love my lonewolf sit and climb with a molle pack frame attached to the bottom. There is a opening that fits my primos bipod perfectly and the pack frame provides solid support. The bipod just hangs in there ready to go.
