Deer are naturally curious animals, sometimes to their detriment.

Went deer hunting this morning and I could see 3 deer bedded down right next to my stand with the thermal before I could even get in it. It was still dark out. Love this damn thermal. I tried putting the stalk on them and ended up sitting about 15ft away from them but as it got lighter outside they saw me hiding in the hedgerow. In the dark they were starring at me the whole time, so obviously they knew something was up. They just didnt know what was up till the sun rose.

Went grouse/pheasant hunting today and saw nothing. I went to a new wildlife management area that they said had grouse. I logged a few miles in waist high golden rod dotted with larger clumpings of pines and pines edging the field. Nothing. I saw one grey squirrel and that was the only thing edible. Beautiful property.
I did find a really fat deer shed. I can make a few knife handles out of it. The base is so far that I’d have to turn it down because I can’t even get my hands around it.

Not seeing much sign at all in my spots. Going to take a day off this week and scout some different spots and see if I can find where the hell the deer moved to.

There continue to be no... zero... not a one deer... in the hood here. For a month. My wife thinks it may be that zootic disease getting them in Putnam. I dont know, but I have to say it is damned weird, if not downright spooky, to see no deer here- at all- for a full month.

I confirmed the deer rifle zero yesterday. Put 2 touching in the bullseye and pulled the third shot by an inch.

So today I loaded all the rounds in the rifle and its good to go for opening day. Do you think I carry enough ammo?

My uncle once walked into the woods without any ammo, so I’d say you’re doing ok.

I'd say 1 round per tag and 2 extra to account for Murphy's Law is plenty for me.

Bought one something like this. Accepts large & small SD cards and allows me to download onto my phone right in the woods, or I can bring it and the card back and download into my laptop. Works well.....

Just make sure the "plugs" will work with your phone.

I have this also. Had to take the Otter Box off my phone inorder to plug it in. Needed to install i-flash device app on phone to see pics.

That's awesome! You definitely need more ammo than me. I've only seen the deer, bears, and squirrels where I hunt as far as game animals go.

Second year in a row empty with archery. Frustrating as heck. Last hunt was fking stupid. Literally three separate visits of deer all of which skirted me on varying sides at 30 yards, which is only a shot I’ll take with bow if it’s perfect.

I’ve had a boat load of deer all season come by at 30-40 yards.

tomorrow xbow starts and my success with that is overwhelming.

I've had multiple opportunities over the past three years to try and call deer. Occasionally if I have seen nothing I'll get to it, but generally if I see a deer in the distance, or even one that has been in my area but not quite in range. I'd say most of them completely, 100% ignore me as if I'm making no sound. Generally the best I've been able to do is stop a deer briefly--last weekend a buck would stop when I'd make doe sounds, but then it would continue on. Never came back my way!

Me, too. Have not shot my Xbow since last season until a few hours ago. Still dialed in like boss. Will drop a few more arrows shortly to confirm. Bucks will be out hunting. Also it will be a beautiful couple of mornings weather wise.

I finally saw a G-D deer this afternoon. Tiny guy, one of the twins they had this year I think. Wife saw two small ones earlier in the day. Sorry for the shitty picture it was late. Literally haven't seen one deer in more than a month.

My little brother got his second deer yesterday.... and hasn't hunted yet.

First one a week and a half ago. Ran down a hill and jumped a ditch - straight into the guardrail. Broke it's neck. Yesterday he was behind a guy who hit a 6 pt. Lost some ribs but the back straps were 26"
