Perfect little tomato. Great job.View attachment 84365
First Roma tomato is ready to go. I’ve been very excited for this moment. Romas are my favorite variety of tomato.
And the cover I put over my raised bed solved my squirrel problem. So maybe that can be adapted for some of your fruit trees.Perfect little tomato. Great job.

I just used 2 - 10’ sticks of 1/2” pvc conduit. I screwed one side down with 2 - 1/2” two hole emt clips then I bent the pipe down and clipped and screwed it the same way on the other side. I repeated the process on the opposite side of the bed. I took 2’ wide chicken wire and cut it about 6” longer than the length of the bed. Zip tied it on one end then I stretched it over to the other side and zip tied again.
It took 4 strips to do the main section and 2 smaller strips to do the small sides. I used an entire package of zip ties to bundle everything together. I left one longer section tied with twist ties so I can still remove the side panel to gain access. In hindsight I’m sure some type of fabric netting would’ve worked much better and been more accessible.
I’m sure a 2x4 frame with some netting over it would do the trick for a smaller tree or bush. You might have to anchor the bottom somehow.
Bring them inside and set them in the counter or windowsill that will get some sun. The red/orange ones will ripen but the green ones likely won’t.Disaster! This weeks storm caused most of our tomatoes to collapse onto the ground. We had them tied up in rows but apparently didn’t make them sturdy enough.
I have a lot of Romas and cherrys that are green or orange that I have no choice but to pick due to fallen off vine or vine broken. Can we just let them sit out on one of the garden beds to ripen in the sun or will contact with the ground promote rot? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Damn dude, you grew a serious amount of tomatoes this year!We were forced to pick all of these today. Roma, early girl, cherry, grape, plum and beefsteak. Tomorrow is gonna be a big canning day - tomatoes, tomato sauce and salsa.

Looks great.BTW, you can also make green tomato salsa. I made up a 4 quart batch of fresh salsa last night with some of my early girl tomatoes that were starting to split.

Put them in a paper bag with apples that have not been waxed...the ethylene gas will have them red in less than 48 hoursThe orange ones should ripen inside if exposed to a little sunshine. The green ones probably won’t. You can pickle them though. I always pickle a few jars of green tomatoes.
Will give that a try. Thanks.Put them in a paper bag with apples that have not been waxed...the ethylene gas will have them red in less than 48 hours
A banana with also work...the riper the better...none of the restaurants that buy my produce want fully ripened veggiesWill give that a try. Thanks.

Give them a little blossom booster and skip the pesticides...let the honey and bumble bees pollinateNice. Our eggplants only have I per plant so far. Seem to be slow growing.
Only use neem oil. Will have to try blossom booster. Just for eggplants or is it good all around?Give them a little blossom booster and skip the pesticides...let the honey and bumble bees pollinate
