They probably received hundreds, if not thousands of 911 calls on this. We get 10 sometimes on a bad car accident alone. People don’t realize (not their fault, don’t take my comment that way) that this actually makes things far worse and harder to sort out. Las Vegas PD definitely doesn’t have as many 911 operators as NYC. I’m sure they had a hard time sorting through the calls to decide what was relevant to the responders and what wasn’t.
An event like this creates mass confusion immediately. How many cops were busy just simply clearing the area? Think about it. 22,000 plus people, the vast majority just running around. 500+ requiring medical assistance. It was certainly pure choas. At some point quickly into the shooting, the responders dealing with the crowds were likely on their own to make decisions while specialized units going after the shooter became the focus. Plus they have to move slowly in ccase there are multiple shooters. I’m sure no one expected to find it was one guy until his body was found and the shooting stopped.
