PORTLAND, Ore. -- An Oregon company found itself in the middle of the investigation into the Las Vegas shooting that killed 59 people and injured hundreds of others.
On Monday, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo confirmed investigators found Tannerite in the home of shooter Stephen Paddock.
Tannerite is the brand name of a binary explosive often used for long-range target practice. Gunshots make the targets blow up in dramatic fashion - with a loud bang and cloud of smoke. The company is based in Pleasant Hill, just south of Eugene.
“It’s problematic for us because now our product is being connected to a horrible tragedy,” said Steve Yerger, corporate investigator for Tannerite.
Sheriff Lombardo briefly mentioned the discovery of Tannerite in Paddock’s home in Mesquite, Neavda but did not elaborate.
“I believe it was Tannerite, I believe it was Tannerite,” said Lombardo while answering questions during a Monday afternoon press conference.
It is not clear if Paddock had Tannerite for long-range shooting practice before the attack or if he had plans for a larger, explosive attack.
In 2013, the FBI issued an intelligence bulletin warning, “Tannerite, or reactive targets, can be used as an explosive for illicit purposes by criminals and extremists.”
Police also confirmed several pounds of ammonium nitrate were found in Paddock’s car. Ammonium nitrate is a fertilizer that has been used in homemade bombs.

The latest press conference from Las Vegas reveals some stunning information. During the Q&A within the latest update the Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo noted the shooter Stephen Paddock had an apparent escape strategy to survive the attack.
As more information is revealed the scope of the pre-planning by Stephen Craig Paddock lends to a strong probability that more than one person is involved
It would probably take reducing the video clip to very slow motion but has anyone yet taken the initial 14 second burst and counted how many rounds are continually fired in the first burst?

This is a horrible tragedy, but we're screwed. My wife was just saying this morning how we should not allow people to have those riffles like that. I said why this is the first time anything like that was ever used in a crime. Her response those selective fire weapons are used all the time in these types of crime. I said no those are what the military have and the media wants you to believe that's the case. Those are not available to normal people. It's a sad state of affairs in this country and I really want to know why he did this. Also I can already see the republicans turning to the dark side on gun control. According to the stories about the security guard that first went to his room (and was shot in the leg) the shooter barricaded the stairway up to his room. The security guard had to take the elevator. How in the hell was he planning to escape? I'd like to see the evidence for that statement since it contradicts the other story.
It's beginning to look like Paddock did not act alone, and would have been content to mass-murder ANYONE.
