I just watched that CBS clip @livingston posted.

It was a mixed, improvised group that made entry? Even with the 1hr+ delay so they could evacuate rooms? You'd think an hour is more than enough time to move a SWAT unit into position. Doesn't seem like a wise move to use a group of guys with varying experience that hasn't worked together before considering the circumstances.

I unscientifically used google maps to figure that the distance on the ground from Mandolay Bay to the Stage area of the concert is about 1000 feet. More from the 32nd floor.
So to me the rounds at full auto would not be hitting close together, but would have quite a spread.
After watching many videos from the scene. The shots fired were less than I initially thought from the "news".
There are many lulls between bursts.
Now I heard on Sixty Minutes he fired 200 rounds through the door? Anyone else hear that? What did they do count the holes?

Well there should be 200 rounds of brass on the floor and another minimum of 200 rounds at the crowd. That gives you a ballpark of around 400 rounds of spent brass plus 16 empty 30 round mags. I've seen a few dozen in the pic and 15 neatly stacked mags which were unlikely to be stacked during the attack other than the ones in the weapon and the stacked mags I didnt see any laying near the window

Look closely, pics show what appear to be 60 round surefire magazines.

distance from hotel to target , height to floor 32 , = range to target .. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 .. take the square root of c and thats your distance ..

say 10 feet per floor ... 320 feet high
400 yrd to event = 1200 feet ...
so 1241.9 feet is flight length ..

now ?? whats the wind ? updraft by the hotel ? down draft ?? .. out at 100 yrds , 200 .. ??

Has anyone counted how many bullets were fired in the original 14 second long continous burst (that people keep comparing to a belt fed machine gun)? Definitely seems like more than 60 or 100 rd mag would have had.

I didn't put it in a video editing program to "see" the shots but I count 59-60 by ear on the first burst. There is a lot of background noise on the second which may have lost some, but I counted about 50.

My question is even as an inexperienced shooter why did it take him 36 seconds for the first reload and 11 for the second...both far too long
