Perhaps if Alec Baldwin had taken an NRA firearm safety course instead of bashing the NRA, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. A gun in the hands of a clueless individual is just asking for trouble. Hollywood loves to make money off the violence in their movies, but shirks the safety lessons of the NRA and other gun rights organizations, and worse, they denigrate the NRA as killers. Alec Baldwin is a prime example of the anti-gun left. Responsible gun owners are taught to treat every firearms as if it is loaded, and we check them to be sure, including when someone, anyone, hands us a gun. Why should Alec Baldwin not be held to the same standard? Obviously a safety check failed here. Are liberals exempt from gun safety rules? Hollywood should be forced to adhere to an NRA safety standard, instead of a "Bash the NRA" standard they hold so dear. They've had plenty of opportunity. This isn't the first on set gun death. Why is that ok, to claim ignorance? As far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't be able to. They have shown a willful disregard towards a basic safety measure, namely, treat every firearm as if it is loaded. This shooting is proof positive of that.

"A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires he sent a text message to the unit production manager. “We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” according to a copy of the message reviewed by The Times."
"Baldwin removed the gun from its holster once without incident, but the second time he repeated the action, ammunition flew toward the trio around the monitor. The projectile whizzed by the camera operator but penetrated Hutchins near her shoulder, then continued through to Souza."

So it sounds like someone (prop wrangler, armorer, an extra...who the hell knows) handed a gun to Baldwin loaded with a live round.
How the hell does someone make that mistake?! I'm not in the movie business but having actual live rounds anywhere near a movie set sounds like the world's worst idea ever.
One thing is for certain: there will be a metric shit ton of lawsuits filed because of this.

Could have been disgruntled union worker? They were ordered offset and replaced by non union workers according to another article posted.

It really should be so obvious that at the very least there are two firearms experts who Independently vouch for every single gun on set before it leaves their control. And they have to be watching the filming any time a gun is out of their possession to ensure things are safe.

Let's start with murdah charges like he demanded every time a cop was involved in a shooting.

Another possibility is that some of the firearms were fired in the desert for testing, recreation or otherwise and live rounds were inadvertently mixed with the equipment for filming. Just a theory

The actors themselves should also be responsible.
They are the ones who point the gun and pull the trigger.
If they are not qualified to determine what the gun is loaded with, then get them qualified before you hand them the gun.
Any actor handling a firearm should be personally responsible for verifying it's condition when they take possession. Anyone else gets a rubber prop.

The movie industry is very good at compartmentalizing their risk.
There will be a corporation formed for filming this particular film. The liability will be limited to whatever's left of that film's budget (frequently nothing).
Suing hollywood for damage they cause making a movie is not typically very successful. Even a movie that is commercially successful will have been sold to a distributor from the corporation formed to produce it before that money is ever collected. The corporation that produces the movie typically has a balanced ledger, or in the red. There just won't be any assets to go after.
Ha. I'll go one further. Any actor who vilifies guns and wants to take away ordinary citizen's Right to Keep and Bear Arms has no business making millions glorifying guns and violence while not practicing the most fundamental rules of gun safety. If he reasonably believed it was not a loaded firearm, then he did not commit a crime anymore than someone playing airsoft does.

And yet it's somehow ok for "him" to advocate guns are bad and should be taken from law abiding citizens yet make millions using them for entertainment without the slightest practice of fundamental gun safety? At the end of the day he pulled the trigger and he owns this. Basic safety check could have prevented this.
