Most of the range changes are due to ammo (steel inserts and the like) being used at ranges and causing damage. Some have also moved to flangable rounds due to hazmat costs.

So make a rule about what ammo can be used on premises. I'd be OK with them having to look/inspect for safety reasons. Don't jump on the wagon and force people to have to submit themselves to what most of us feel are unconstitutional laws, though, because that makes them no better than whose implementing the laws in the first place.

Recommend it to them. I also thought there was a clause that if you paid for ammo to be used on the range or club a background was not required.
At the ranges I go to down here in NC & SC, you can bring your own ammo to shoot with. They only require you to purchase ammo there if you are renting one of their guns, as they are concerned with someone using hot loads, and possible damage or liability issues.
Get yourself a C&R/03 FFL and avoid a lot of the hassle.

I suggested that to one place and was more or less told to kick rocks as he stated if I didn't like the rules I could go elsewhere. I did, and never stepped foot back. I'm all for making money if you run a business, as long as you're doing it ethically. Never heard that clause, but if it's true, what would stop someone from buying 5 boxes of ammo and only using three? Now you'd have to either be given a refund for the lats two boxes, have to have the check to leave with them, or just leave with them. So, with the latter, what's to stop someone from doing that each time they go to that range? It is what it is, and I'm too old and stubborn to deal with that crap, LOL.

Who would do such a thing? Not me. I’m going to Florida soon and I’ll buy some new self defense rounds there. I’m going to Georgia soon I’ll buy there, going to Kansas and Indiana this year as well and I’ll buy ammo and switchblades there.

Hard to give that a like, but I agree. I was in a shop today, and I was listening to the guys working there, they didn't seem to be too awful upset to be cashing in on a lot of this. Gun stores are basically a racket now with all the fees we have to fork over. Even worse, those fees are taxable. So, you pay a tax on a fee that violates your rights. The State with its overreaching regulations have driven out a substantial number of Dealers; it cost a lot of money to comply with the State, and the lack of competition means they can charge more if they so choose, and they just have to.
If you've got a $15. an hour employee you're actually paying more like $20. with employers requirements factored in. It takes 15 minutes for them to process a BCG for a Box of ammo, so there's already a five dollar cost for time, $2.50 for the State for each inquiry, overhead, and there isn't exactly a big markup in a box of shells.
Guns are about the same: markup is usually 20% and by the time it's all said and done, there isn't enough to make a living unless you're the only game in Town...Big Box Stores don't give a fuck, they're working on volumes and hire flunkies for as little as someone's willing to work, and it shows.

It is no different than what they did with motorcycle inspections. Used to take 5 minutes. Now takes 20-30 minutes.
All this does is screw the people of NYS.

C'mon man. The prices for basic classes to get a PP went from $70 to $500 (yes. I know the length of those classes was extended, but geez)? $100 for a 5 minute gun transfer? I get that people running any business need to make money, but being OK with a lot of these new prices is like being OK with the current gas prices. Sorry, but it shouldn't be OK for this business to charge too much while it's not OK with that business. There are some awesome shops out there, and I'll do business with them. I just wish I didn't get the feeling they didn't seem to be OK with a lot of this.

Yeah, I can't find any sources where it states there was a court case yesterday about ammo BG checks. The last one was back in May of last year.

Worse for who? Us of course, they want them vague and this is by design. I’ve heard some people say this is all you need to do and it will make this rifle compliant but I don’t believe it.

I know it's meant to be vague and ambiguous. If you think about it, the whole law and the unwillingness to come out and state what's OK and what isn't is actually entrapment. Which is illegal in its own right. But so are gun registries, yet here we are in a thread about a veiled gun registry using ammo background checks as the facade.

Not really correct. Laws and regulations (administrative laws) proscribe things which are unlawful, or violations. They do not describe, define, or outline what falls *within* the boundaries of that law or regulation.

I'm not incorrect. I'm just in that area where the laws are there, but a person would be hard pressed to win a case. Like the cop who sits and waits outside a bar to catch someone drinking and driving. The problem is going before a judge who would uphold the statute. Without definition, technically there can be no law broken if no law is defined. But this is NY, and cops and judges get to make up the laws as they go, or at least so it seems.
