I plan to continue buying ammo. All my long guns are in the same cartridges as my pistols. Since nys already knows about my pistols I just say the ammo is for pistol. What I find funny is that since nys wants the caliber recorded and not the cartridge it’s really just pointless. Much like all my pistols have the caliber listed on my permit and not the cartridge (as per nys law)
for example my Glock G29 is listed as 40 caliber on my permit as that is the caliber measurement. 10mm, 40 smith and Wesson and 40 super are all types of cartridges. My Thompson center contender pistol is listed as 45 caliber. Thus I have different barrels in 45acp, 45 super, 454 casull, 450 bushmaster etc as all these different cartridges are all 45 caliber. My other pistol is listed as 22 caliber and 30 caliber. I have uppers in 22LR, 223 Remington, 300 blackout and 308 Winchester for it. All of those cartridges are either 22 caliber or 30 caliber.

It's already that way... I know of at least a dozen relatives (and coworkers) who expressed interest in owning a pistol just for the home, but when they saw the arduous process (both in time and money) they decided to wait. And over half of them are women.
A shotgun might be a viable option for some, but not all..

I got a friend who's a woman, and she was looking forward to being armed when by herself. I helped her get her pistol permit in hopes that the CCIA wouldn't come forth so she could carry more freely.
She still carries, albeit illegally now, but she's really careful in her interactions and where she'll go. She was hoping that by carrying legally she'd be slightly more looser on her chosen locations and/or times.
Now I'm not talking going to odd places... I'm just saying like Walmart, convenience stores, mall, etc.

I’ve made a habit of stopping by a local gun store after work to pick up a box of ammo every now and then, about 30 minutes before they close. If they’re still open after the 13th, I don’t think that’ll be possible any more. There’ll probably be “ammo waiting lines” at most stores because of this.

You cannot be compelled by warrant to give up a combination (safe, phone,etc), biometrics are fair game though. They can however seize your truck for however long the investigation takes, and cut open the safe.
