My problem is I'll buy 1k rounds, and then shoot it all right away! My shooting is outpacing my stockpiling. but given that I'll not be bunkering down in SHTF maybe the 1.5 k of 5.56 and 1k of 9mm I have banked is too much already?

We all hate it. Lucky for you, I'm a forgiving fellow.

Its a funny coincidence then that while the ammo shortages were going on Ruger (just one manufacturer who gave out their sales numbers, but indicative of the others) sold over 1,000,000 guns in one year for the first time, then the next year sold 2,000,o00. S&W, Remington, Mossberg, Kimber, and even Kel-Tec and High Point were all selling as many guns as they could make. Groups like the Well Armed Women and Pink Pistols saw their memberships increase like crazy. Shooting ranges saw business increase. All those new shooters wanted to use the new guns they bought.

The fat guy in camo selling bricks of .22 from walmart for $100 is a convenient target for your anger, but at least some of the anger is misplaced. I think the number of new shooters (a good thing for 2nd Amendment rights) contributed as much as anything else to the ammo shortage - perhaps not initially, but definitely the long term shortage.

The answer is be prepared. Buy a what you think you need and buy a little extra to stick away for a rainy day. Then when the next panic hits, you won't need to deal with the scalpers.

Gee, I had 5000 rounds of .22 delivered to my home yesterday. The ammo was ordered on line. Yup, there are a lot of dickhead ammo vendors that won't deliver to homes in New York, but there are a few that have read the law and understand it fully.

You can still get ammo delivered to your home via UPS/Fed-Ex. I do it all the time.

This is nothing but scare mongering. If you run across a good deal on ammo, buy it. It's a personal decision but I doubt running around with your head cut off carping about "impending doom" only stirs the pot for no good reason.

By the way....ever hear of a reloading press ?

Of the States you've listed above, I travel to shooting competitions to all of them except California. From what I've seen, there's no shortage of ammo there.

My take on stockpiling ammo at this time is buy what you can afford. Under Obama gun and ammo sales went through the roof out of fear.
Supply and demand drove the prices up. Now the odd thing is this. I did not see more people at the range shooting all this ammo up. To the contrary
over the years Obama was in office there were fewer people shooting and most were not shooting as much as they had before. I did see an increase
in people shooting 22's for awhile and that even dropped off as the ammo prices increased. The guys that reloaded were shooting less with some even bringing 22's instead of there 223's and 308's. I kinda figure there is a big stockpile of ammo people are still holding. At Shooting pits in my area you no longer found much fired brass. Mostly just 22 cases. You look at these gun photos posted on this board. Very few of them show any wear. It tells a story. I got my bad ass gun, shot 50 rounds through it and put it in the closet with my 1000 rounds of SHTF ammo. Oh, and that NY Safe Act where most did register their weapons. They too are in the closet gathering dust or perhaps torn down with that bad ass pistol grip removed. At some point
all those people that bought all that pricey ammo are going to start unloading it at a loss as store prices come down and they need the money. Now with all these weapons sitting in the closet, rarely being shot, just how prepared are you? If you do not shoot regularly you have lost your edge.

There is an old saying. Don't worry about the guy that owns 10 guns, worry about the guy that only has one because he knows how to use it.

So buy plenty of ammo, shoot it up but keep some on the side.

In reference to my above post, I was contacted by an Administrator who advised me that the name of the company I listed was "edited" from my post because the Administrator received "complaints" about listing the company name, which by the way has been listed NUMEROUS times in the past both here and on NY Firearms with regards to mail order purchases.

The problem we have here is two fold. One, if you own firearms in NYS and you actually think what you own, your purchasing habits, what organizations you are a member of, and what you post on blogs, websites, and internet forums isn't already public knowledge (and seen by LE at EVERY level) you are sorely mistaken.

Secondly, I don't "live in the shadows." I buy what I want, from who I want, and I make the necessary arrangements to acquire what I want when I want it within the law. These is NO AMMO DATABASE AT THIS TIME and any company doing business with you in as far as ammo shipments are concerned ISN'T breaking any laws....period.

If some of you want to "live in the shadows" that's YOUR choice. I refuse to because that's EXACTLY what NYS wants you to do. Voluntarily force yourself underground and never expose your "dirty little hobby" to the light of day. This in and of itself drives "panic buying and stockpiling" of which isn't always necessary which by the way is issue brought up by the OP to begin with.

I'm not pushing any narrative here, unlike those who requested my post be edited. I'm offering facts not fear.

Next time anyone has a problem with one of my posts, have the strength of your conviction to contact me directly instead of going to an Administrator which should be the remedy of last resort and make sure you sign your actual name to the correspondence. After all, we are ALL firearms owners whether we stand on the front lines or lurk in the shadows pretending "Big Brother" doesn't notice us or what we do.

That is true about most here. They'll get mad at you too like children. Because you disagreed with them they take it like you crossed them and they even go as far as removing likes from your previous posts on other thread that they liked.

But in response to this particular situation you are correct for the most part about stockpiling for the average American. They have thousands of rounds per caliber and buy thousands more every time a liberal sneezes.

In our case, time is running out before they get the Ammo BGC System up and running. I stockpile on the caliber or calibers I'll use most so that I'll never have to go through that BGC when the time comes. For 9mm, I'm good for years.

What we own in NY is covered on our permits. So yeah they know.
Not sure 'they' are monitoring every purchase we make unless we advertise it in a post online.
The organizations we belong to are IMO being monitored as well. So yes I'm pretty sure that's a forgone conclusion.

Nope, no ammo database at this time, so absolutely no reason for ANY vendor to have pulled the plug. Yet almost all of them did. The few that do still honor free interstate commerce in NYistan should be kept on the down low because it became very apparent that monkeyface's goons came down on vendors that disobeyed his middle of the night edict and most of them acquiesced to their cease and desist pressure. Why put a decent vendor in their crosshairs unnecessarily?

And, if you think for one moment the January 31, 2018 deadline to renew our permits isn't directly related to us creating the database for them you are sorely mistaken. So that database and the ensuing ammo BGC is a mere moment in time away from being a reality.

How is anybody here living in the shadows? By the very nature of their posting on a public forum they are putting themselves out there. Protecting a fast dying resource is not living in the shadows, it is part of self preservation.

The facts haven't changed because you don't reveal the name (which can always be done via PM if you have a level of confidence the request is from someone of honorable intent). Besides, the content of your post remained intact. The only thing 'censored' was the divulgence of the vendor's name.

This has always been a hotbed of contention on the boards and quite honestly I didn't want to debate the issue in case you didn't see things the same. I wanted a result to protect everyone that uses that resource. It was no attack on you or anyone else specifically. Not everyone is even aware of the problems that can arise from loose lips sink ships.

I can personally attest to the fact that one vendor who had no idea about the Unsafe Act that used to ship to me regularly stopped doing so after numerous people called them that wanted ammo and asked them if it was legal for them to order. That's what the lady told me.

So yes. Keep it on the down low. There are many stupid people here who will call and bug a company to the point where they stop shipping because they are afraid and feel better if the company says yes not knowing that the very worst that can happen is just a cancellation and refund of the order.

Who sells to NYS online and is willing to ship to us is a matter of PUBLIC knowledge and has been since day one of the enactment of Unsafe. You're not protecting anyone...that ship has already sailed.

Secondly....the post was edited. How much and under what conditions it was edited isn't relevant. Unless the post contained language that could be considered "over the top" the post should have remained intact. In fact, the Administrator gave me the option to reintroduce the name of the vendor if I so wish. For the sake of quieting the vocal minority, I chose not to.

Lastly...next time instead of "running to the Principal's office" contact me directly. I would have removed the name of the company at your or anyone else's request based upon the presentation of valid points to do so. Instead you and some others back doored a valid post , forcing censorship of a known fact for personal reasons.

Fact remains you and others had NO business asking anyone other than me to censor my the non-threatening/non-confrontational words because you think you need to keep info "on the down low."

The ammo price spike a couple of years ago was actually a two part problem. Every gun owner thinks it was "hoarding" which was only partially correct. At that same time copper, zinc, lead were also spiking as a commodity. Wire, pipe, solder all things made of metal cost lots more due to the price increase in raw materials. I was getting $200/ton for scrap sheet metal. China, India, Asia at that time were buying up all the scrap metal they could to fuel their economy and paying top dollar. The ammunition industry paid more for their raw materials and passed the cost onto the consumer. As inventory stockpiles were used up some manufacturers curtailed production in hopes that metal prices would come down. Less ammo may have been produced creating the illusion of a shortage. What ammo got out there got scooped up.
