You can do it yourself with a hand drill.
Ehh go slow and and it is pretty easy. That is why they make adjustable gas blocks for. I use Seekins adjustable GBsThat sounds like a plan. I dont own a drill press , and I dont want to fuck up a 300 barrel. I would rather pay somebody 100 dollars to drill the hole right then for me to screw it up beyond repair. You only get one chance to do it right.
Depends on what the port size is now. I normally go up a few thousands of an inch at a time until it cycles correctly. What size bit?
Thats fine. You need to blow down the tube and block before it goes in. You didnt install the gas tube upside down (Port facing up) did you?Air seemed to flow ok through the block and tube OK. Air seemed to flow through the barrel hole OK . I could not blow air through the gas tube while installed , not because it was blocked, I had no way to do it.
Barrel length is 18 , from the gas hole to the tip of the muzzle is 4-7/8 inches. I dont know how large the gas port hole is , I have nothing to measure it with.
The distance from the barrel stop to the port is slightly less than a dime width.
I dont have calipers or drill bits that small , but Ill check my tool box again . Sorry I couldnt be more helpful , I just dont have the right gear with me.
White Oak is owned by John Holliger. He is one of the best in the business. I am buying barrels from him for 15 years. Instead of calling and talking to a sales lady I suggest emailing. That way you will get him to address your issues. You can always ask him if you can send the upper to him. He will get it to work. I see him every year at Camp Perry. He is super honest and you can trust what he says.
No the tube is right side up. Air flowed through the tube and block fine. But I have no way to check it again once its installed on the rifle.
You could try Ryan at Lake Erie Arms. He is an FFL that builds ARs. He runs his business out of his house part time, but is great with anything AR.Well, I need it to fire faster than a musket. I would like to get it operational and zeroed ASAP. I orginally had a a Odin's work adjustable Gas Block.
but when I took it to the range it would'nt fire. Ok , maybe it needs more gas. So I kept loosening the the front adjuster pin, and when I went to ajust it again it had fallen out into the dirt and grass. GRRRRRRRRRRRR! So, lets try that again and keep it simple stupid. So I bought a Bravo company plain gas block , no adjuster. Same size as the Odins works 0750 . It was tight!! I mean real tight . I had to grease the barrel tap it in with a mallet . So the first time, It didnt work. So Im trying to figure out what I did wrong. Let me see if I lined it up right, Took it off , saw that the screw hole on the bottom lined up with the gas hole at the top of the block. Easy enough, I just need to line up the screw hole with the mark on the bottom of the barrel . Check. Put it back on making sure it lined up perfectly with the screw hole on the bottom . test fire, and no cycle again.
I talked to the guy at Blue Tuna , He said he would look at it. Im not a gunsmith, I cant figure out how this isnt working. Unless somehow the gas port hole on the barrel is to small and needs to be drilled out more. I just dont have that kind of knowledge to figure it out . It might be something easy or it might be something that needs some work.

He moved. I think Springville.Last time I checked Lake Erie Arms in Lackawanna closed down (per the google). RA is a good guy, I know he's an AR Armorer, only reason I didn't suggest him is I thought he stopped.
Well, that would explain it.He moved. I think Springville.

I believe he meant a $300 barrel.a 300 barrel .. AAC 300BO i take it ?? if its a 300B0 needs a pistol length gas system ... or drill it out for more gas ..

Actually that is pretty quick as far as gunsmiths go.ARRRGGGH! My rifle now has an effective range of 3 feet! As far as I can swing it. Spoke to another gun smith he said he cant get to it for 2-3 weeks.

Well, technically it's a bolt action with shitty ergonomics now.ARRRGGGH! My rifle now has an effective range of 3 feet! As far as I can swing it. Spoke to another gun smith he said he cant get to it for 2-3 weeks.
OK, A suggestion... After reading through this thread, and knowing that @meketrefe has built a shit-ton of AR style stuff, and is super knowledgeable why not ask him for some “direct action” help? Meet for coffee somewhere like Batavia or whatever...
