No rifle is going to cycle with blanks unless you are using a blank fire adapter like this.

Without the bullet providing a restriction the gas pressure in the barrel is a tiny fraction of what it should be.
I made that point way back in the thread, but it was ignored.

Like others said a blank does not build any pressure with an open muzzle.
Forget about blanks and go to the range once you have the new gas block.

It wasn't ignored. I fired my service rifle without a blank adaptor without an issue . But more importantly, I cant go to range every time I adjust the gas block . number three, I push the muzzle into a bucket of old rags to kill the noise and help retain the pressure.

The fact thay you can't go to the range every time you make a change doesn't alter the physics that says a blank will not cycle a properly working AR without a BFA.
And you might sometimes get it to cycle with a bucket of rags like you say, but that isn’t a reliable way to test, so it shows you nothing useful.

I have fired my AR with blanks without an adapter and without a problem , so saying it doesn't work , isn't very convincing . I completely understand your premise , but I have done it with no issues . Not disagreeing that its not the best indicator. Less pressure, I get it . But Im working with what I got.
The bucket of rags was used to silence the report ( which it did very well, less than a balloon pop.) so my neighbor doesn't get me swatted out , I was also hoping to contain the pressure a bit , but that was secondary to the noise.

Update!
I decided to take matters into my own hands and used a #39, 0.0995, to drill out gas port. It basically shaved the hole a little bit , and I bought a gas block jig to make sure it matched up perfectly. I fired a blank through it , and it did not cycle, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I fired a blank through my other carbine and it did not cycle. I packed up my gear and took it to the range and it fired and cycled perfectly .
So to you guys who said blanks would not cycle , Salute! You were correct. (Although I did fire my service weapon without the adaptor before which is why I was so pig headed about it.)
So Im not so clear on which reason was the cause , the port hole or the alignment because I did not test it when I drilled my porthole. only after I got the gas block jig . But it any case, its working , and I would recommend the gas block jig for 12 bucks . You could make your own , its nothing complicated
