@vago, I would just abandon the notion of fixed magazine ARs of you need it for anything else beyond a range toy. You are far better off with a "featureless" rilfe and the very best among those is the FightLite SCR-

With something like that you can retain the detachable magazine and have something that is actually useful, as opposed to a cumbersome range toy. Apparently the Magpul rifle stock can be made to work which I think looks very sharp-

The SCR is simply going to be your best NYS compliant option.
You could also go with a Thordesen stock-

Also don't be so hung up on the BCM. They are far from the be all and end all brand. In fact you will be hard pressed to find any kind of AR and you should be prepared to pay out your anus when you do find one.

In essence that is what the state HAS done... It's an open-ended interpretation specifically designed to trap people, since there is no definition within the law addressing magazine removal for ANY reason including Maintenance or Repair. The only thing I have been told is, it should require tools to remove the mag, but not how difficult it should be. Removal of the maglock I use actually requires the use of a drill. And it actually destroys the lock AND the threads, post and spring on Mag Release Bar in the process.

Bottom line though is that there are tens of thousands of rifles in NY using these controversial compliance methods and many years later there are no convictions for any of them.

So, in a practical sense, they are all good.

Perhaps... But I prefer to err on the side of caution and go as complicated as that which is feasible. Don't want to be the Crash Test Dummy on one of these "Easier" workarounds... And I can only go by what the dude on the Hotline told me... "Make it require tools...". I'm a retired LEO, but I am NO EXPERT in the interpretation of the law.

Also, there is the wording "Readily Capable of accepting a magazine". This alone means, to my mind, that if you can insert a magazine with the rifle assembled it is "Readily Capable". For my setup, first I have to break the action apart. Next I have to disassemble the mag by removing the spring and follower. Then I have to wedge a tool between the mag and mag release to actually get the mag out. Then insert a new mag WITHOUT the spring and follower, install the spring and follower, and THEN reassemble the rifle. That, in my mind, is NOT "readily capable"... And the only time I go through all that crap is when I am cleaning, swapping out the .223 Wylde upper for the 6.5 Grendel upper, or there is some issue I need to address.

We need a design that prevents the rifle from accepting a mag when it is closed. There's gotta be a way to do it. These prevent the mag from releasing but if a mag is not in they will not prevent one from being inserted and that's the problem. Someone's gotta be able to come up with something.

I had a dream where I had this friend who's got an AR-10 that he built and and AR-15 and both are full functioning and he's got 30 round mags loaded up for the AR-15 for home defense. In the dream I asked if he was worried about it not being compliant and he said nope. He's not going to drive around with them and they are to be kept in his house. If he's gotta use them to save his life, he will worry about any problems then. Then I woke up from the dream and thought I was lucky to not have a friend that would actually do these things. o_O

You could weld the mag to the lower. That would prevent it from EVER accepting another mag, even when completely disassembled. Downside is it would also destroy the lowers Mag well. You could replace worn-out springs and followers without too much of an issue., but that would truly be a fixed mag. And not sure what that kind of damage the heat would do to the Mag itself. Metal mags are pretty thin-walled.

True, but a law that is never enforced isn't much of a deterrent either.

Blowjobs were illegal in several states until a SCOTUS case a while back. I don't know how many people turned them down because of that though.

I did one with a Thordesen stock, I like being able to remove the mag, but I find the stock bulky kinda heave and well, ugly, and overall my like's are out-weighted by my dislikes. Were I to do it again I would go with the SCR. There, I talked myself into it.

I prefer the look of the Resurgent Arms grip over the Thordesen stock. It's pretty comfortable, too. I recommend buying their end plate, though, because it's uncomfortable without something like it.

Damn I legit thought their carriers where a full on BCG.. thats kind of shitty for say someone who isn't to gun knowledgeable, sees this drops 700 bucks.

But then again not that expensive of parts.. but then imagine buying a bolt, then see you dont have a firing pin and cam pin hahaha
