I used a harbor freight electric winch mounted on the ceiling of the garage this year. I always used a ratcheting pulley in the ceiling and it worked fine but last trapping season I bought the winch to make skinning easier on my back. Was nice to be able to raise and lower with a button.

I have been interested in an AR style rifle for hunting, but I didn't want to lug around a +9lbs AR10 while hunting on State land (lots of walking). I prefer to go as light as possible because I also carry a tree climber & backpack. I was happy to see that the 6.8 SPC is a 270 size bullet in a shorter case. I've read that the 6.8 SPC was replaced by the 6.8 SPC II. Are most of the most of the parts being sold now in 6.8 SPC II ?

The vast majority of barrels are II now (the barrel is the only part that matters for SPC I vs II). I don't know of any being made now that aren't.

There was a mistake on the reamer print that resulted in a very short freebore. That, combined with 270 Win rifling limited loading potential initially. In any case, the SAAMI spec has not been updated so most factory loads are going to be safe with either. There were a few (pre-Nosler SSA for example) that made SPC II only loads but those are getting pretty rare, even on the second hand market. In short, you shouldn't have to worry about SPC I vs SPC II.

out at BIL land in westmoreland and MAN....YOTE tracks all OVER... crazy but didnt see any. Im thnking of taking predator call next weekend.. we didnt see much. A guy in our hunting party got a lil jumpy and got a small...small doe...... did I mention a lil small.......I saw one doe but that was it...didnt shoot at as the trail cams show a good amount of bucks but they were not out saturday.

My son needed to order some tin roofing for their sun room, we went to alpine metal roofing up in Sydney, we seen two does out on the way therend a shit load of deer on the way back. I'm going to head out until the end of shooting time.

Finely got one, it was out about 80 yards in the woods by its self, I figured it was a doe. It ended up being a small one. Tomorrow might be better. You never know.

6.5 Grendel shined yesterday. It was me that sucked. Got a small one. Farthest shot I've ever taken. Range finder put it at 192 yards to the hay bale he was in front of. So I'm guessing 180-185 yards

We're thinking of combining that with some d-rings in the floor or something to hold the deer from the bottom. Find a way to loop the legs or the coat and pull against it so it strips it for us, all we have to do is cut.

I've seen people do that with a large ball bearing. They start skinning the deer then put the bearing wrapped up in the started hide. The wench cable has a slip loop to go around the ball bearing. It works well the one thing you have to watch out for is taking a large portion of meat off with the hide.

I'd rather do the skinning while it is still warm, it is soooo much easier and it cools the meat down quicker.

Ya it was a pretty decent system. It worked better than cutting holes on the hide the tear out with any sort of pressure.

1 frozen deer was all I needed to make sure we don't do that again. The propane heater in the garage worked nicely, but next time we'll throw them in the truck and do them when we get up here, instead of doing it down there.

The last cold deer I skinned off was about thirty years ago, never again. I'd rather skin them in the woods while it is still warm and pack it out then skin a cold deer. I have an older nylon back pack with an aluminum frame just for that purpose. Quarter them up, put the quarters in plastic bags and carry it out.
Sometimes it is easier doing it that way, depending how far in you shot it and how step the terrain is. Even if you have to make two trips.
At this stage in life if it is to far off the road it gets cut up, my brother is pretty much done dragging deer, he is close to 100% disabled so he doesn't do any dragging. At my age I look for the easiest way to get it out of the woods and back to the house.

Moyle in Idaho 866-826-3877 will tan it for $50 if it is fletched and salted.
I am going to try fletch it myself if I have time. If not I will mail it back to myself in washington and deal with it unless some one here would be willing to fletch it and I can pay them for that part.

Seen three deer today, a nice doe but to close to houses, I small tiny deer, way to small and a nice big ass buck, to close to houses. Still have a few hours left then Budweiser time.

I was looking at those recently. Actually just a few days ago I attached one of their $22 wire winches to a piece of 2X4 so that I can hoist my generator up off the floor and onto a shelf. Planning on future uses for it, too, they are handy!

I use an old block and tackle, the only energy it uses is mine. Today I'd probably be looking at the electric winch, in all likelihood its cheaper than a good quality block and tackle.

We only have one block and tackle and it's great. We use a few of the cheap pulley systems you gain buy specifically for game. They work but I wouldn't say well.

We went up to south Otselic to look at a 35 acre lot for $50,000. A very narrow strip of land that is almost vertical, really steep. It isnt worth two cents in my oppinion.
We did see two cabins one on ten acres for sale and some land. I made one call about 1/2 an hour ago, no answer.
We did Dee over 50 deer today on our quest for property for a hunting camp. No shots. Maybe tomorrow, but it is Budweiser time.
