As an example, I refrained from making a joke post about bulletguy needing money for hookers when he was selling an AK on here while he was in Shot Show in Vegas.
I could have and wanted to but didn't because it was in the classifieds section.

Yeah, but even other discussion forums/Sites have classifted sections that are just the ads and contact info and not an ad in a discussion thread. I don't see anything wrong with doing it either way, I'm just saying having the classified section less discussion oriented would work also.

Yeah, I'm on some of those and it is horrible. There's a lot of positive discussion that comes from sale threads even if there's times when it can just be nonsense, either way it doesn't effect the sale even if it gets the sellers jimmies all rustled every time he sees an update.

A classified section shouldn't need bumps though. It's a section where people on here would go if they are looking to buy something used. If it's still listed, it's still available.

and if it is buried in other posts someone might not find it. Bumps never hurt anyone or anything. I personally used the "new posts" link almost exclusively here, sometimes i miss this. If it gets bumped I'm more likely to notice it.

Maybe there is a way to have it where questions in the form of posts go to the seller first as a pm and the seller can post the question/conversation to the original ad? Kind of like ebay. So you could get the benefit of the positive discussions concerning the item and filter out the non-serious stuff.

That sounds ridiculous and overly complex lol. It's a gun forum dude. We're here to talk about guns. If a casual conversation related to an item for sale pops up what's that really hurt? I've seen TWO people be annoyed by it ever in my entire life. The OP and the guy in the mini 14 thread.
Maybe there's a bunch of stuff for sale and there's 0 offers on it because it's horrible over priced and some new guy can look at it and go "wow no one posted here in a month? Guess this is more than it's worth" but he can't reach that conclusion in the other format. That doesn't excuse his lack of research but if he's new who can blame him?

THIS IS NOT A PLACE OF BUSINESS. It's a DISCUSSION forum. I'm not a mod, admin, or owner, but from my perspective optimizing this place for BUSINESS is a mistake. This isn't a place for businesses to list their inventory, while it is allowed that's not the sole purpose of this place.
