Denied my Sportsperson amendment!!!

So after 15 weeks of waiting Judge Zuckerman has denied my amendment. The letter is two pages but here's the important part. The letter states that "Based upon the facts and circumstances of this application, including the submitted correspondence and the aforementioned investigation by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the applicant has failed to demonstrate that he is in any specific kind of danger, or that he has a particularized need for protection different from that of the general public, during the course of outdoor activities. See penal law article 400. therefore, the applicant has not met the necessary proper cause for the issuance of a Sportsperson licence and indeed his failure to specify any specific threat to his safety or need for protection constitutes good cause for denial of the application for amendment.
My letter:
Your Honor, I'm requesting the Sportsperson change for the sake of hiking, camping, fishing and biking in upstate NY where many wild animals such as bears, coyotes and mountain lions have been spotted. I spend a lot of time, as much as two weekends a month outdoors doing family activities with my wife and children, this includes our dogs. I would like to be able to protect my family should an unfortunate situation arise with an aggressive animal. I intend to carry my firearm for all lawful purposes, I will be in strict compliance with my administrative restrictions and that a change to Sportsperson would allow me the freedom to enjoy the many outdoor activities I enjoy with my family without the fear of attack from the wildlife mentioned above. I would also like to mention I target shoot a minimum of twice a week. Thank you for your time and consideration..

I have never heard of "sportsman" class of permit. Must be a county thing? We have "Hunting and Target" and "Unrestricted". As far as I know, that's all.
In anycase that sucks you were denied! Any chance of appealing?

I would say you most likely didn't do anything wrong. Your judge just requires "good cause", whatever the fuck that is, for lifting restrictions on your permit. As far as I know, judges are allowed to do that even though restrictions are not part of PL400. Did you speak with your judge or the clerk prior to applying for this?

That county sucks, but from what I remember, I haven't heard of anyone being denied a sportsman. It's unrestricted that is impossible in westchester.

The letter isn't bad but I'd remove the specific animals. For example mountain lions are a myth in NY these days; they've become a bit of a running joke on huntingny forum for example. People always claim to have seen them for a laugh.

Stress also in your letter your flawless (?) record, that you undergo regular practice and training (if that latter is true).

Included my fishing licence and my DEC water shed permit(or whatever its called)

We have sportsman restrictions in Oswego county. My wife was successful last year in getting her restriction removed. She had to take a advance pistol course and write a letter to the judge.

Amy Bellantoni represented me. She wrote an initial letter to the judge that I submitted with my application, and also appeared with me in court for my interview with the judge. Mine was issued in Columbia County where we are only issued unrestricted, however, I have a pretty spotty past and she was able to help me articulate how I have turned my life around. I couldn't have done it without her. She is very professional.

You definitely have to consider the costs. It may be cheaper for you to join a club with 24 hour access and always be on your way to the range.

then my wife just wrote a letter asking for her restrictions to be removed,, approved in less than a month..

Here's the kicker, I have a WC EDC X9 and a Kimber Jager sitting with my ffl all this time and now don't know what to do. I'm definitely going to appeal this bullshit, so now what do I do. Send in the amendment for the guns, which will need a home inspection(guns 5 and 6 ) or wait for this to be fixed. SMFH
