Since you are lawyering up, may as well go for unrestricted.
I'll second this.Since you are lawyering up, may as well go for unrestricted.
I only have my licence a year and can't imagine that happening. But I will inquire.I'll second this.
So after 15 weeks of waiting Judge Zuckerman has denied my amendment. The letter is two pages but here's the important part. The letter states that "Based upon the facts and circumstances of this application, including the submitted correspondence and the aforementioned investigation by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the applicant has failed to demonstrate that he is in any specific kind of danger, or that he has a particularized need for protection different from that of the general public, during the course of outdoor activities. See penal law article 400. therefore, the applicant has not met the necessary proper cause for the issuance of a Sportsperson licence and indeed his failure to specify any specific threat to his safety or need for protection constitutes good cause for denial of the application for amendment.
My letter:
Your Honor, I'm requesting the Sportsperson change for the sake of hiking, camping, fishing and biking in upstate NY where many wild animals such as bears, coyotes and mountain lions have been spotted. I spend a lot of time, as much as two weekends a month outdoors doing family activities with my wife and children, this includes our dogs. I would like to be able to protect my family should an unfortunate situation arise with an aggressive animal. I intend to carry my firearm for all lawful purposes, I will be in strict compliance with my administrative restrictions and that a change to Sportsperson would allow me the freedom to enjoy the many outdoor activities I enjoy with my family without the fear of attack from the wildlife mentioned above. I would also like to mention I target shoot a minimum of twice a week. Thank you for your time and consideration..
Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.
Here's the kicker, I have a WC EDC X9 and a Kimber Jager sitting with my ffl all this time and now don't know what to do. I'm definitely going to appeal this bullshit, so now what do I do. Send in the amendment for the guns, which will need a home inspection(guns 5 and 6 ) or wait for this to be fixed. SMFH
Just got off the phone with Amy and was told that the letter is perfect and should be no reason to deny my request. She also said that from what the county letter stated, it's the denial for an unrestricted and not Sportsperson. She also stated that I should have received a phone call from the judge prior to the denial, which didn't happen. She's going to get the letter from the county and she will be speaking with the judge. Now this is where it gets even shittier, if I appeal three things can happen, actually four. 1) he could approve it 2) he could deny it again 3) he could just ignore it (really) 4) this could be a big waist of money.I would second the comment which recommended taking out references to specific animals (especially mountain lion).
Just keep it simple: you want to be able to carry a sidearm in case you run into aggressive predators. Also, if you hunt or track wounded game, you could bring up the use of a sidearm for those purposes too.
Get the gunz first. Send in the amendments and while you are waiting you can regroup and figure out what you want to do with your restrictions. BTW the home inspection is a big nothing. The detective dosen't want to be there as much as you don't want him there.
She told me ain't going to happen, don't even bother!Since you are lawyering up, may as well go for unrestricted.

I've lived in NY for 59 years and in Westchester for the past 27. Trust me as soon as my wife can retire (5 years) I'm taking my 5 figure tax dollars I pay on my home, my business and getting my ass out of here and will seek my freedom.Isn't lovely to live in a state let alone a county that's gunhoe when it comes time of sucking up your tax dollars and raising those amounts at a drop of a dime but saids a Big Fuck You when it comes to your God Given Rights Fuck You judges and all of lands crooked politicians @tommygunz I wish you luck patriot but take it from me when possible seek some freedom
The letter can't be changed, it was already submitted.I'm just pointing out that Mountain Lion don't inhabit NY, and the judge might get the wrong impression if you're citing that animal's presence as a reason for your unrestricted carry.
Also, what is a "sportsman" carry? According to Penal law 400, there is no such thing. The most permissive carry permit you can get, according to that law, is "to have and carry concealed regardless of employment" which is informally referred to as 'unrestricted.' There is no target/hunting only permit type according to that law.
My nephew had one on a trail cam a couple years ago in Owego, NY right next to Lockheed Martin.. For example mountain lions are a myth in NY these days; they've become a bit of a running joke on huntingny forum for example. People always claim to have seen them for a laugh.

Not "seen one"...has images of one. He sent it to a Zoologist who confirmed it was a Cougar/Mountain Lion. Believe it or don't. Doesn't matter to me either way. That's why there is a perception held by some that mountain lion do in fact reside in NY: because everyone's uncle, nephew, grandfather, ect. has seen one...
Yet it when it comes time to produce concrete evidence (tracks, a kill site, scat samples, a photo that isn't grainy as s#%t) there isn't jack squat...

okUnless you want to provide pictures and the reference to the zoologist who "confirmed" the sighting, I call BS.
Since the early 1900's (when they were extirpated), there has only been one confirmed cougar sighting in NY; that was a transitory one that briefly moved through the state before getting killed by a car in Connecticut.
All the other "sightings" have been unsubstantiated claims made by people who let their imaginations run wild.

Work safe?Not true man.

Well, more accurately at night.

I actually do. He's my best friend of 42 years. I may just look into that. This is one option, albeit a real pain in the butt. Do you have any good friends or relatives in upstate, in a friendlier 2A county? If you do, “transfer” your pistol permit file from your current country to the county your relative/friend lives in.
You’ll have to have some bill in your name, (cable, water, gas) something that tells them you have “moved” to this particular county. The receiving file county will issue you a full unrestricted permit for that county.
Then wait 6-8 months, do a change of mailing address on your 2A friendly counties permit.
So you’ll live in you current co, but have a completely unrestricted NYS permit from the upstate county. Couple people in my gun club have done this....
Didn't Heller affirm any sort of "proper cause" clause as unconstitutional?
Here's a bit of correspondence about that issue , if it even is one.So 15 weeks ago the sporstman application was still available? Because as of now I don't see that as an option anymore. That might be your problem. Fighting for something that doesn't exist anymore. Heard they were removing it because of too many people getting caught treating it like a full carry
The problem with this though, is that the judge in the new county may not allow for this or may simply refuse to do amendments. Plus if it does work out fine doing it that way, you are still talking about having to make the trip up to that county just to add an amendment. May still be worth getting unrestricted though. I'll add that I heard this is okay when you are talking about adjacent counties, but I'm not sure about counties that are across the state. This is one option, albeit a real pain in the butt.
