I've never fondled the lcp. The one time I shot a sig 938, I couldn't shoot it for shit for some reason. (Granted that was my first time shooting such a small pistol) Ruger lc9s is just a touch bigger than the lcp, and I can shoot that fine. I did add a hogue grip to the lc9 to increase palm swell a bit. I'm guessing the grip on the lcp to be comparable to a jframe?

I've been toting my P3AT for years. And like any other gun nut I've spent way too much on springs, rods, triggers, and last year had sights installed and the slide got a resin finish. Money down a rat hole. But the little fucker goes bang, easy to break down, weighs nothing, and fits in every pocket. I'll never get my money back, but that doesn't matter 'cause I'll never sell it.

picked up a Taurus Spectrum this past summer to replace the LCP I have as a EDC. not bad with the spectrum a bit bigger its easier to manage/handles for me atleast.

There are 9mm guns that fit in ones front pocket some very small too. Having something super tiny beyond of what is needed it is not a great idea in terms of being more effective for PD.

The russians was the grach project snd was a 9mm luger vs the classic makarov.
A modern tokarev is a different story, at least offers something different specially for the pdw. But with the SIG and 9mm dillon around it is harder to justify.

I hate the .380! For no other reason that somehow I always seem to find one in the 9mm I'm loading and it screws up the machine.
Exactly right.. More and more i was finding I was leaving the P938 home because although its small for a 9mm, I found at times, I didn't want its all metal weight "encumbering" me especially in summer, and at times I just had to run to the store for a second, or go and get gas..
Then one day I simply realized i was making excuses too often for leaving my CC at home.. Of course, chances are close to zero that I personally will ever need it, but they are not totally zero.. Shit happens in this fallen world..
So I got a P 32 Keltec and that suited me ok until I realized I didn't shoot it very well at all.. Then I saw a GREAT sale, and I bought what I considered the best compromise which was a Sig P238.. More punch, and more accurate than the .32acp Keltec, somewhat smaller and lighter than the 938, but every single bit as accurate, even in my less than steady hands...
I never feel undergunned with a .380 ... Didn't when I carried LCP's either.. I think its a perfectly valid SD round, although I realize that many will disagree.. I am of the opinion that accuracy and comfort in carry and concealment trumps sheer "knockdown power" in the hands of many citizens that carry for protection. The .32 acp was fine in my opinion, but was not accurate in my hands, so I bought the P238..

Nothing wrong with all metal. The only downside is weight and sometimes that extra weight means you’ll leave it at home. Last summer, I concealed carried an LCP IWB with nothing more than swimming trunks with a tight draw sting and a T-shirt to walk to our community pool.So I think I am finally going to pick one up. The P238 will do anything the others you mentioned will do, Its very accurate, and reliable to a fault.. We have 2 of them, and I can't remeber even 1 FTF or stovepipe, .. I like the look of the Kimber, but they are not regarded as a reliable weapon.. Lots of issues a few years ago that were well documented.. They may have straightened the problems out by this time of course, but I would do some research.. FREE P238????.. er umm,, I'd be all over that if i were you, and call it good!... real good...bob

With the new ultra-compact 9mm's out there, I don't have any interest in .380's. That's exactly why I bought the P365 today. I wanted something smaller than my Glock 26 which as I've gotten older has started to feel bigger and bigger on my belt. The .380 is just as capable nowadays according to a lot of metrics, but I'm just too use to 9mm to want to bother with it. I play around with tons of rifle calibers but in handguns I really have no interest.

There are very small single stack 9mm firearms. The lightest loads hit harder than the 380 with similar percieved recoil.
And then you have the option to go higher in grain and power.
We are talking about minute differences in size for the same nr of rounds. It is not like twice thebweight or thickness. The 9mm type one can fit iside the front jeans pocket or even a ladys braw.
Anything smaller then it is at the expense of firepower and versatility for pd.
In theory one also has 30 cal, 25acp and even 22lr. They are no toys but rarely seen in defensive pistol training.
Anything you dont see often in training has a much lower chance of being used effectively.
And that is just the way it is. Ask the professionals.

I have a large scale 22 pistol I like a lot.
I have a duty size 9mm I like a lot.
I want a small frame pistol I can shoot a lot, and fit in a pocket when I take the dog out on ~4 acres at night that I can use for skunk/possum. Bonus if it is a good handgun to be handy and user friendly for my wife while I am away from home.

Until you actually hold something like an LCP or Kahr P380 in your hand, you will see that the differences aren’t minute. Trust me when I tell you. I have handled them at the shops. I have had small single stack 9mm’s in the past. The size and weight differences are considerable. The smallest reliable 9mm is the the Kahr PM9/CM9. Here is a comparison. In the pictures below you can see the difference. In your hand and in your pocket or waistband, you’ll see it even more. Like I said earlier, “I can ccw an LCP in the waistband of my boxer briefs and a T-shirt with no belt. No way can I do that even with a micro 9mm. It’s too heavy.

And as far as loads hitting harder, I thought you already knew that the only damage you get on a wound track from a slow moving pistol bullet is from the diameter of the bullet itself. Basically, the bullet has to hit vitals to stop you quickly. Your body isn’t going to care if your heart or spinal column was hit with a 100 gr .380 FMJ or a 165 gr .40 after full expansion. Shot placement is everything for an immediate stop.
The only thing you will lose by going .380 is the added speed and weight for hard barrier penetration for auto glass, thicker car doors, ect and the bigger expansion of another caliber which could be the difference between a miss of a vital organ or a graze of a vital organ.

Nobody is arguing that .380 is as good as 9mm.
Plainly it's not.
Certainly there is some overlap between the hottest 380s and the tamest 9mm as well.
And they do make some nice small 9mm pistols.
But the smallest .380s are smaller and lighter than the smallest 9mm's.
We are just saying that a .380 is probably "good enough" and that the good .380s are easier to carry than a 9mm.
Also, the .380 you will always carry is better than the 9mm you leave at home when you're "just running to the store quick" or "just walking the dog" or whatever.
If you're willing and able to carry your G29 all the time, then that's obviously a better solution than either a .380 or a 9mm. But for many of the same reasons a 9mm may be a better option for some people than a 10mm, a .380 may be better than a 9mm.
Caliber is always a compromise.
My 380 is very small and that is why I have it, if some how it was 9mm I dont think I could shoot it.
When I first got my 380 some guys gave me crap about it, I reminded them it surly beats a hand full of hair!!

I bought an LCP custom because it was cheap and I wanted to try it out. With the pocket holster, I spent under $225. There are times when I just grab it for quick pocket carry or walking the dog.
I am thinking of adding a laser just for the hell of it, if it will still fit comfortably in my pocket.
