fightlite scr hmmm worth a look?

So thinking why not get ahead of Deer season this time unlike last year, and while I still want to get my Saiga running right I also wouldnt mind having an AR typeish platform

Now if anyone has one my question is, would their proprietary BCG be able to take a 7.62x39 or even a 6.5 or 6.8 bolt?

Thinking this lower is probably the best all around, I could use one of the above mentioned caliber uppers for deer season, and then build a 5.56 upper for maybe a 2 gun or pretend to have a boogaloo rifle.

The only real downside i see to the SCR would be mag changes.

It is really coming down between a SCR or one of those weird Kel-Tec whatevers. I hear they arent bad, but dont seem as modular as the SCR could be, but also has a .308 option which would be nice for hunting

I think that one comes in Grendel. The bullpup one right? If so, it comes in Grendel.

Edit. Looks like they took it off their website. For the NY Legal ones, RDB-C, now called the RDB Hunter, it only comes in 5.56.

The more I think if it, the more I'm guessing a Troy PAR .308 might be a smarter option for me. These laws ain't going away and it's only a matter of time before semi-auto ban comes into effect with all these politically inspired shootings.

Plus you can hunt in Pennsylvania with it too.

The SCR Bolt Carrier can be used with any cartridge (bolt face) that fits in an AR15 platform. They keep teasing a 308 version but have not delivered yet.

Oh no I wouldnt even really try to find a keltec if I can avoid it, which based on the other comment of easily being able to swap the bolt in the BCG the keltec thankfully isnt even needed to be looked at

I do like the Kel-Tec's length though. 30 overall inches with a 20 inch barrel that'll have a 55 gr going at 3300 fps is intriguing compared to a 37 inch fitelite with a 16 inch barrel going at about 2800 fps.

You can even chop 4 inches off the barrel and have a 26 inch package like a SBR with normal length ballistics.

That is correct. It is what it is. No changing of the handguard since there is no handguard as it's a one piece chassis. There is no stock so that wouldn't need changing. Quite honestly the average user that's okay with what it comes with, nothing need be changed.

You have rails for accessories that are part of the chassis. What needs to be changed except the trigger maybe? And even that is really overrated at times unless you're into competition shooting which the Kel-Tec isn't made for.

I see this as a weapon that's like an SBR in a compact package with full-size ballistics. That's about it.

Not to mention the SCR takes most AR parts and those will be around for a good amount of time minus the propriatary bcg.

Or keltec who spends 2 weeks on a design then ditches it and moves on and who knows how long parts will be around until they stop building anything for it

Valid points. Not for everyone. Good for someone who doesn't change things or buys another gun when he wants another caliber.

Before I sent it I had a friend test the trigger with his Lyman digital trigger gauge, it averaged about 5.5 lbs. I just checked it with my Lyman and the new trigger averages 2lbs 9.8oz (5 pulls) with about 1/8" of travel.

IMO, An AR10 Ares lower would be really interesting. I don't have any specific reason other than just because, but I'd really like to pick up a .243 and 6.5 creedmoor upper down the road and I'd have no qualms pairing either with an SCR lower.

See this is good news to read, because the few reviews I've watched all talk about the horrible trigger and it being something like 7lbs.

I have both a Ares SCR (bought it pre Fightlite) and a Kel-Tec RDB-C. The SCR will be going in for trigger work shortly as what you’ve read about the original triggers is basically true. That aside, it’s a good handy rifle and benefits from readily available aftermarket accesories. The RDB has actually been an excellent rifle in my experience. You are correct about the fact that aftermarket add ons are not nearly as plentiful, but the hand guard can be replaced with a aftermarket Mlok compatible one that free floats the barrel. Look in to Lucky Irishmen Firearms for that. First day at the range with mine I literally pulled it from its cardboard box,and proceeded to put about 300 rounds of federal 5.56 through it without so much as a hiccup. I also like the stock trigger significantly more than that of the Ares. Still takes standard AR mags, and is fully ambi. I think either would make a solid choice.

Again though the keltec is only limited to 5.56 (unless I am mistaken and it uses standard AR style barrels and bolts) unless you want to get a barrel blank and have one made and the figure out a bolt for say a 6.5 grendel or 6.8spcii

Keltec should just officially swap over to a R&D only company and then make their money by licensing the designs out to better companies.

They come up with pretty awesome stuff. Hell even the Keltec P-3AT or the PF9 are kinda decent guns for what they are, but if you look at the clones (yes other companies saw those cheap guns and cloned them) with a few extra spent on materials and finish you get awesome guns.

I've owned back in the day a Sub2000 it was pretty neat for what it was, and back to these things.. the company gets awesome ideas, then makes a few versions in low numbers out of just straight up plastic and whatever wood screws they find laying around instead of putting the money into quality parts, sell the stuff at a decent price but never enough is made, they get bored or have developed something new and focus on that and let everything else fall to the wayside

If you’re worried about mag changes, there is an ambi mag release meant for ARs that you can install on the SCR. You have to install it upside down due to the way the SCR lower is shaped, which is kind of wonky, but it allows you to drop the mag without taking your hand (assuming you’re right hand dominant) off the grip.
