Just in case I left the impression that I didn't like the SCR, that is not so. I did indeed like it, I just think there are a few little things they could do to make it better looking.

And to be fair I didnt think you didnt like the scr.
I saw what you saw as needing improvement and was trying to point out that those cosmetics (aka the handguards) and stupid pencil barrel are easily swapped for an endless amount of aftermarket choices for any standard AR15 upper

Do you mean the lower or the upper? Their upper looks crappy. You can buy the lower by itself and put any upper you want on it to not have their crappy upper.
Unless of course you don't like the way their lower looks.

I like the lower. They are kind of pricey but that is the route I would go and put together an upper of my own liking. I like the concept though and traditional look, the owner of the gun agreed. He said he was an AK kind of guy.

I'm considering getting one too. I think this will beat a Ruger Mini 30 in 7.62x39. Given what it is, it's a solid combination.

I definitely want one and I think even if I do get out of NY I would still want it around, it's just neat.
The stock SCR is terrible, no doubt about that. It has a pencil barrel and a Magpul MOE handguard which is definitely disproportionate to the barrel and depending on what they have for inventory at the time you may get a Monte Carlo or Sporter stock.
It doesn't take much to turn it into a respectable AR alternative for those of us who are not willing to have a non-compliant AR-15 or stuck in this communistic nanny state.
And to be honest the cheapest solution to the pencil barrel is to just buy a new handguard/rail is 14-15" in length that will cover up the majority of it.
If you absolutely must have a non-pencil barrel you can buy a cheap Stoner AR barrel from MidwayUSA for like $69.99

I agree with @ohms139 had I not gotten the complete rifle for $599.00 I would have gone the Lower route in Monte Carlo. I sighted the scope in last weekend at 50yds and was ok with it, then this past weekend move over to the 100yds groups opened up (still a dead coyote!) some. So a new barrel will be in the future maybe find something at the Syracuse Gun Show this weekend?

Thankfully we are in the era of ar15 overload and good stuff like barrels and handguards can be had for reasonable prices. Unlike post sandy hook where everything cost of 3x what it should
