If you’re worried about mag changes, there is an ambi mag release meant for ARs that you can install on the SCR. You have to install it upside down due to the way the SCR lower is shaped, which is kind of wonky, but it allows you to drop the mag without taking your hand (assuming you’re right hand dominant) off the grip.

If you’re curious I can figure out the name and take a picture of my setup. I want to say it’s by KAC.

That's awesome, prior to this I honestly didnt give the SCR much of a look because the gen 1 triggers and the mag release issues.

Then hearing that the gen 2 triggers are pretty decent made me think you know what I can train around the mag release.

But if there is a work around with that as well. Looks like the SCR may be on the short list

So it’s called the Troy Ambi Magazine Release. As you can see, if you get the optional bolt release from Ares/FightLite, they end up very close to each other but I think it can be trained around and it’s the only option for ambi release.

To set it up you have to knock the tiny pin holding the button (labeled “Troy”) out using a very small punch or a nail and then flip the button itself upside down and push the pin back in.

Looks like a viable option thanks for the pic, leaning more and more to saving up for one of these

My PCC has a no reach magazine release from the trigger hand. I just use my support hand that's going to come off the handguard anyway and press it on the way down as I'm reaching for a magazine from my belt.

It's a training issue that'll cost you a fraction of a second more that's easily overcomed if you don't want to add another device.

What sights are you running, from what I have been reading due to the stock standard AR sights are generally to tall

I wonder if you could re-barrel the su-16 to a 6.8 or the like.

Well yea why wouldnt they have a life time warranty, they just need to go to the hardware store and pick up the supplies to fix their guns..

It would be one thing if they invested just a little more money into the actual products they make and use higher quality materials

Rifle has a 3-9x40 Nikon scope, but I would like to find a low front sight as I can peak under the scope.

No problem, hope it helps. I actually found that info on the old forum. Some guy posted looking for an ambi release and then went and tried like $300 worth of ambi releases, and found out the upside down Troy was the only one that worked. Glad he did the footwork for the rest of us.

Be careful with the Troy ambidex mag release. I had one and found that the flare on the short magwel interferred with it; I didn't think to modify my Troy ambidex though so I just returned it.

The Knights Armament is much better due to the length which accommodates the elongated lower. It also comes with a round button cover that screws onto the stock mag release.

I'm currently in the midst of buying all the parts to do a .458 SOCOM upper for my SCR. I already have the proprietary SCR bolt carrier, strut and dowel pin. I'm just waiting on the Yo .458 SOCOM bolt assembly to pop back in stock.

It's going to cost me roughly $780 to build my .458 complete upper with an 18" barrel, left sided non-reciprocating charger, UTG Leaper M-LOK handguard and KAK flash can and the incidentals like the gas block etc... This is including the cost for the SCR bolt carrier and Young .458 bolt assembly.

Fightlite seems to think so. I spoke with them on the phone before I delved into this project a few months ago.

Worst case scenario, I have a PSA Snek-15 stripped lower I can toss it on.

Yeah you absolutely have to flip it or it won’t work, which is the only caveat. Once flipped it works fine without any hiccups.

I don’t think the KA release is better. I almost bought one but it seemed like it would make mag changes slow and clunky, just like the standard release does on the SCR.

The advantage of the Troy is it allows you to intuitively reach the mag release by sliding your support hand back and gripping the mag well. It alleviates the need to stretch or reach far back searching for the button because it’s immediately present as soon as you grab the mag well.

I had mine shipped to NY, the FFL sent it to a gunsmith to have it cut and crowned before I took possession. You shouldn’t have an issue.

@ohms139 Am I right to assume you shoot left handed? For me as a right hand shooter the factory mag release on the SCR is to far forward, I am looking to use this so I will be bring my left hand back ( My Ruger PCC mag release is set-up on the left side also) from the forend to do mag changes. A release like the KA on the right side may put it in reach of the trigger finger?

I posted about that in post #22 in this thread, as mine was a Gen-1. From what I understand no aftermarket triggers as of yet.

Yeah I guess it depends on what you’re near. I think it cost like 50-75$ for cut and crown.

Yes 100% NYS compliant ( not muzzle break model) and NYC also as the complete rifle ships from the manufacturer with a 5rd magazine, just like the Ruger Mini 14.

I got the Troy Ambi mag release yesterday and installed it today, seems to work just fine.Looking to go to the range tomorrow and re-sight in the rifle after I moved the scope back.
