Wow. Kinda sounds like he did this on purpose to challenge the courts. Talk about taking one for the team. This seems to be the only way to actually get SCROTUMS to hear something. Although, they could keep this poor guy in limbo until he croaks.

The 2nd really ought to protect you from being armed in public. What the heck in it even so much as intimates it's only for a person in a private residence? Does this mean homeless people have no right to it? If you're allowed the 1st on a public street that you own as part of the general public, why not the 2nd? I could see them forcing conceal carry instead of open (because then you are still granted 2nd), but then it would have to be an assumption you can do it without a permit.

But of course good luck getting scotus to agree to this.

NRA says they picked up 20,000 new members in NY because of SAFE. At $30/member/year thats $1.8M they have collected so far just to fight SAFE, and that doesn't include what they picked up with the weekly begging calls to existing members. How much have they spent actually fighting it ?

That guard with the 15rnd mags we talked so much about last month, he should have had a dream team of lawyers all paid for by the NRA.

After (un)SAFE Act was passed, I joined SAF, NYSPRA and was already a member or the NRA for a couple of years. (I even have an NRA-branded Ruger 10/22 Takedown 50th Anniversary rifle, at the time it was the only Takedown model available) I was very optimistic that with various support the unjust law would be struck down; I even attended the first demonstration in Albany as many of you from NYF remember.

Now all those years later, the only change we've seen is the removal of the 7-round limit, and all those organizations asking for more money.

I think the NRA is branching out too much; their hunter safety courses used to be very useful, but they recently made several changes that upset members of my club (Camden); it required taking an online quiz before attending the even longer hunter safety training, with no exceptions. I believe they recently backtracked on that requirement after much blowback.

Their foray into the concealed-carry insurance world is already making waves..

Right now I still give to Second Amendment Foundation, but I'm losing hope in NYS. Even if National Reciprocity and HPA/SHUSH passes, they'll find some way to not honor them in NY...

Poor example @spat. That guy fought that as being unconstitutional at the County Court level! With the 2nd circuit ruling it constitutional no way could a dream team of Lawyers have won the case for him! They would have advised taking the plea! Til the NY Un-Safe goes to the SCOTUS or may be this Kolbe case from Maryland could help.

With the 2nd circuit ruling it constitutional no way could a dream team of Lawyers have won the case for him! They would have advised taking the plea! Til the NY Un-Safe goes to the SCOTUS or may be this Kolbe case from Maryland could help.

An NRA dream team would have taken it with the assumption that it would end up at SCOTUS. They would have groomed the case for that very purpose. They would have assumed he would be found guilty at the local level, and assumed they would have to appeal it all the way up.

We all know any SAFE case is DOA up through the 2nd circuit.
