i looked at those stats too, and the math doesnt add up.
If the NRA had 5 million members, and NY has 41k, and NY is the largest state, and there are only 50 states....
One or more of those numbers is wrong, and I doubt it's cause I didn't count Puerto Rico and Guam as "states"......

An amicus curiae (literally, friend of the court; plural, amici curiae) is someone who is not a party to a case and is not solicited by a party, but who assists a court by offering information that bears on the case. The decision on whether to admit the information lies at the discretion of the court. The phrase amicus curiae is legal Latin.
So...participating on the fringes wherein if its a win guess who came riding in on the proverbial white horse to save the day and if they lose, they're detached enough to not suffer the public relations fallout.

Yes the state Association of the NRA is Florida Sports Shooting Association,
Norman is being represented by Florida Carry which is affiliated with SAF. and a Lawyer ( Stephen P Halbrook ) with ties to the NRA.
The NRA doesn't dump cases off on state associations. The state associations are who have standing in the case!
I would love to see NYS go open carry . I think they feel people would not carry their gun if we had to open carry. I open carry down by my house in Tennessee like almost everyone.

So...the State Association does the heavy lifting, Florida Carry is affiliated with SAF and the Atty. has "ties" to the NRA and I'm to believe the NRA "backs and supports legal action?"

The NRA is receiving criticism BECAUSE its not their case.
They should be backing cases not with "friends of the Court" briefs but with an ARMY of Attorneys and the financial support to see cases like these through to the end.
I'm not saying they should back every case that comes down the parkway but those with actual merit and the law is clearly on our side should be supported to the fullest extent. The NRA doesn't even come close to meeting that threshold.
They'd rather take your money and spend it on salaries, slick advertising campaigns, and half assed lobbying efforts that assure we gun owners continue to bleed out our rights while they reap the financial benefits of our misery.
They're a Ponzi scheme. They're guilty of fraud.

The only relevent question in these pertaining to how much the NRA supports the case, is how much they open their wallet.
I don't care if they never file a single paper, or say a peep in public about it, but how many depositions did they fund ?
They could hold daily press briefing about some case and how critical it is, but if they aren't helping with the legal bills then they aren't helping.

Many of us here did. Many of us from other forums did as well.
Even if for arguments sake no one did, it still doesn't change the fact that they can and will pass any law they want in this state.

Ok. You and several internet friends cancelled your memberships (probably just didn't renew, cause actively calling and cancelling is hard!). That's a little short of a statewide movement.
According to numbers I've seen, NRA membership is up 10% over the post-Sandyhook high. The reason is the same reason you haven't seen .22 ammo at Walmart for the past few years (post hoarding), and the reason gun clubs have 2 and 3 year waiting lists for membership. There are more people getting into guns and shooting than ever before - thanks in no small part to the efforts of the NRA. This will pay off for all gun owners over the long term.
Before you get pissed off at the NRA, how about researching what their stated mission is. Then see if they're working towards that.
As for NY specifically, if we could get the POS fudds to stop voting based on who's giving the biggest handout, we'd be set.

Numbers went up post Sandy Hook because people got things taken away from them. They thought that the NRA would definitely do something because the crimes committed against us were so harsh.The NRA did nothing after that.

The NRA does good and valuable work in their original mission, but they don't call me weekly begging for money for education or promotion of shooting sports. They beg for money to fight gun grabbers. They do not spend the money they get with those calls fighting gun grabbers. That is the problem most people have with them.
I am convinced that for every dollar you donate in response to those calls, they spend $0.95 of it calling more people for more money.
