I am not disagreeing with hearing damage in that fashion. I am saying that the concussion isn't traveling out of the chamber, in to the receiver and into your face. It goes out the muzzle.
All that said however the point you bring up is precisely why I have gone from ear plug to ear muffs, to better protect my zygomatic bone against the concussion and conducting it into my inner ear. Though I am already pretty deef so I don't know why I should bother really.

5.56 conversion kit
That's cool and all but now you have a 5.56 gun with the bulk and weight of a 308 gun.
But it's not the only rifle with that problem, and being so readily swapped from one to the other is cool. Honestly, as long as relatively cheap M80 surplus is available I don't think I'd ever bother with the 5.56 barrel. Semi auto 308s are so very entertaining to shoot. I wonder how well the MDR tames the 308? There is such a huge variance in otherwise similar rifles in regards to recoil mitigation in that caliber. From the jarring G3 clones to the almost absurdly soft Galil Ace.

That looked like it was recoiling pretty hard for 556. That's something I don't like with this conversion. Now you have to mess with gas settings for 556. Unless you put an adjustable gas block on a 556 you shouldn't have to mess with gas settings. I'm sticking with my RFB for 308 bullpup. It handles recoil great and is more compact.
Don't know why he said 16" but it's 18" barrel.

Eh. Our armed forces shoot M4s in adverse conditions and with cans all the time without gas adjustment. I shoot my ARs with cans all the time without gas adjustment. To be honest the gas adjustment thing for shooting with cans is nonsense.
They also have 1 type of ammo vs the countless choices and hand rolled options as civilians. Sorry but using military use as any real argument is kinda meh

So what issues do you foresee with using a can on an unregulated gas system? The abuse to your rifle parts argument has been beat to death. 99% of people would never see a part break even if they shot their gun exclusively with a silencer. All the different types of ammo don't make a difference either. Keep in mind military ammo is hot. You're going to get a faster bolt acceleration. That's about it.
In some cases like 300BLK ,with subsonic rounds, a can will actually make the rounds more reliable if they are underpowered. Silencers generally make guns more reliable seems to be the consensus over at silencershop (Common Silencer Cycling Issues). But who knows. Maybe they just want to sell you some cans.
One last thing to think about. Which pistol has an adjustable gas system? Why doesn't anyone ever really make a big deal of shooting cans on handguns? The whole silencer thing and needing to adjust the gas is just another one of those things that's been floating around and parroted over and over without much to back it up.

The barrels of the MDR each have their own gas blocks that are integral to the barrels themselves. Swapping out barrels means the gas blocks come and go with them.
Nothing wrong with your RFB. Actually it's a pretty rare bird. I have only seen one once, on a wall at a gun shop. In retrospect though they should have gone with SR25 mags I think. There is wider availability of those.
There is a difference between unregulated and self regulating gas systems I suppose.
All self regulating means is the gas system through a bunch of gas at the piston but vents it off early in the tube, like on an M14 or AK system. The AR15 is an example of an unregulated system..............maybe. one could say excess gas is vented out the side of the BCG.

Yes. I guess what I was trying to say is that I don't think the 556 needs the adjustable gas block. But I understand it's easier to just drill a smaller whole through a barrel than make a different gas system on the same rifle. I agree with the magazine thing. I bought an sr-25 just to see if I could make it work. Not even close lol. Now I have an sr25 still in plastic.
ETA: Yes the RFB has an adjustable gas system.
Magpul? 20 or 25 round? Windowed? Still looking to get rid of it?
