I was also bothered by watching the cop getting punched & tossed to the ground while the other two cops stood & watched (one on radio and the other w/ bodycam backing away( either shoot him again or holster it and help your partner. Don't just stand there and watch.)
And risk missing the head and hitting someone else behind him. Its shoot until the threat stops, stomach and thoracic cavity.

As I've discussed with many pro-gun and anti-gun people: A defensive firearm is discharged to stop a threat. If the threat dies, so be it. If the threat is incapacitated or runs...also acceptable. But, firing continues until the threat is no longer being presented.
Or as we used to say in the old country, when in doubt empty the magazine.

That's why I practice drawing and firing multiple rounds.
A non-critical hit is a non-critical hit, period. When under the influence of some drugs, the perception of pain can be altered to the point where it can be ignored. A threat must be permanently stopped or incapacitated before defensive action stops.
Personally, I'd prefer the capacity of 9mm over 45ACP. A miss with either does no damage. Higher capacity simply means more chances to get on target. That said, a shot to a lateral hip may be incapacitating with a 45ACP but not with a 9mm....depending on the specific attacker. A head shot, even with the lowly 22LR, can usually stop the threat immediately.
Bottom line: Get on target and stay there until you're out of danger.

I stand by 9mm, its 2018 ballistically speaking science has made all round pretty equal. Federal HSP +P 9mm is all i carry.
I carry Super Vel 190 Grain JHP (manufactured before their re-launch in 2015) 45 ACP in my carry guns. I may have to pick up some of their 185 grain stuff one day. supervel

That depends. Is that one shot behind a barrier? If so, 9mm. The .45 may not make it thought said barrier.
Is it a fat guy? Is the shot going to be going though an arm first and then into his chest after it exits his arm? If so, 9mm. A solid copper non-expanding round will penetrate further than a .45 ACP would of the same solid copper bullet design and have a better chance of reaching vitals.
Is the assailant wearing body armor that's level 2 and below? If so 9mm.

I don't understand your question. Who said the .45 Acp can penetrate anything? I didn't. I say the opposite when it comes to hard barriers that require speed and smaller frontal meplats.

In this particular shooting, a 45ACP might have been better. In other instances, the 9mm would be better. In life there are too many variables to say one thing is better than the next.

Some perps do since it's all they can get. They don't buy online or at stores like we do. They buy shit from the back of a trunk. That's why when caught, you see the magazine loaded with both hollow points and fmj. Whatever they can get. At times they stupidly load their 9's with .380's because they don't know the difference.
