How Come No American Made SKS?

It's a shame to see a 300-500 gun going for those prices but yea you can occasionally stumble across one for sale around 800 but most people are now looking to get 1000.

Somebody buy it before I do, I paid ~$800 for mine all said and done (FFL/Shipping) a few months back. I think commie weapon prices are starting to fall since everyone seems to just be stocking up on ARs.
A big problem with most unconverted Saigas I find is that they always include >10 round magazines and random non-compliant doodads which raises the price considerably. This one includes a 10 round mag which is convenient for us in NY.

I don’t disagree with the idea that a rifle with a removable magazine is a better option for most practical applications. However, in NY fixed mag is the only way to retain the features many people want without going to a manually cycled weapon. Given that fact, it does make sense to optimize that configuration as much as possible.
You wont be seeking Saigas fall, and that is not BNIN it was shot "a few times" and I'd be worried about how they mounted that airsoft red dot on the dust cover (easy fix) but again saigas are never coming back into the country so the prices will never be great again

It's true I agree. NIB Saigas are most assuredly over 1000, I was speaking of the used market.
It's a shame they don't keep these in stock. But I understand why.
And its not a bad price from one of the top AK companies in the US....

Well NIB is still going to be on the used market, by this point any retailers who havent already sold out their stock pile is most certainly on their last few guns

If I could find one of these in stock locally it would be on my short list. Not the cheapest option, but certainly well built ak’s.
There was one in SPAR firearms a few weeks ago. $700. The catch? SPAR is in Mechanicsburg PA.

The reason why I liked the SKS was the magazine system. It was fixed but useful. If you wanted to drop the rounds because you were done or you had a malfunction, you just released the trap door unlike an AR fixed mag system. Because it was fixed, you can put a more ergonomic stock on it. You could make it a folder if you wanted. You could add the newest muzzle brake or compensator if you wanted.
A Mini with a Stripper clip guide doesn't solve the fixed mag problem. A VZ-58 doesn't solve the fixed mag problem. A Mini or Ares/ Fightlite featureless doesn't solve the long stock problem.
What I want and think would be a hit in banned states is some type of gun that uses an SKS type fixed magazine system. One that could have a folding or adjustable stock. One that could perhaps accept a 5.56 stripper clip since those don't have the rounds fall out of it like the SKS ones do.
I'm asking for a lot I guess. I guess I'll have to tool one myself.

The Vz's literally have a fixed mag and take sks stripper clips.
The sks has a tilting bolt locking system that is chunky and and a bit slow on impulse. The firing pin can blunt, and with time and dirt, can become stuck causing slam fires. The orginal Russians had a return spring, but this a cost saving feature they and other countries dropped.
The sks, like the garand family, has an open action prone to the ingress of mud and debris. This is an inherent weakness of all open actions.
There are other limitations:
The Iron sights are so -so
No good provision for options mounting
An op rod that in of itself is a dangerous projectile ( true but also meant to be humorous
)
Generally speaking horrible triggers (exception being yugos and some russians)
Stripper clips are not the god send everyone is looki ng for either. Try carrying 3 of them in your pocket on a long hike. Your rounds will be all dumped out and you'll be back to single loading most of the time.
There is an open action semi auto that can take stripper clips and can have the mag fixed in the form of the m1a, which some would argue is also an obsolete rifle from a bygone era.
I have owned all of the major action types. The sks is mostly good for being reliable and inexpensive in comparison to better options. Other than that, it is/was my last choice for self defense or recreational shooting in my semi auto stable. I would never want to hump around and depend on stripper clips for any real life and death situation. I even find the lowly Mini to be more accurate and just as reliable. (581 series mini with the thicker barrel.)

Yes. That sums it up. A fixed mag system that accepts stripper clips that can be unloaded with a trap door like an SKS magazine rather than chambering and extracting each and every round to unload it. That way you can clear malfunctions with ease and it wouldn't be just a range toy like all the fixed mag AR rifles that people have here are.
One that can be loaded quickly with stripper clips from your vest or battlebelt.
Magpul mags.
Pmag can be dumped almost as fast as an sks

That isn't ideal. The guts have to come out of it with a standard magazine. The SKS mag keeps everything intact.
Nothing is going to be ideal. Listen you are in a ban state you will never get anything that is going to work how you think.
Just go buy an SKS, pretend that it is just as good as other options.
Again not sure why you are drooling over an SKS (again only reason why they were ever popular here in the US is because millions flooded the market and they cost literally nothing at one point, not because they are great or even good guns. Not horrible but well they aren't great) when you can own a featurless AR, what you lose a pistol grip and flash hide.... so what

I'm not saying the SKS is the bees knees or a new variant of the SKS nor any fixed mag rifle regardless if the actual fixed mag design is better than fixing a regular magazine that isn't designed to be fixed.
I'm just pointing out a hole in the market. There would be lots of people here and in 5 other states that would buy a fully featured rifle that's loaded with an AR stripper clip that's easier to carry than a magazine into a fixed magazine that operates like how the SKS magazine operates.
I had an SKS before and sold it on the other forum.

Then get an SKS???? They are still all over the forums and what not just now at double the price they should be and still about 1/3 the price any new US production could ever be at
