The 6.5 CM has been adopted by long range competitors and Hunter as an alternative to the 308. As a result of that the 260 Remington is making a comeback as well. The Remington 700 is not chambered in the 6.5 CM yet but it is still chambered in the 260. I would venture a guess a factory Varmit Profile barreled 700 chambered in 6.5 CM will be introduced in 2018, Remington does not want to miss that boat.I believe the 6.5 cm will be here to stay. A lot of people shoot it for long range shooting just hard to get any distance in ny.
Creedmoor has introduced a 6mm Creedmoor which will be taking on the 6XC and 6BR in the competition world. It will be interesting to see how that round does verses the two established bench rest kings. I will be building a 6BR bolt gun in the near future.
I just ordered some Redding competition dies for the 6.5 CM, I still need to pick up about 2500 pieces of brass for the 6.5 CM first though. My LRB M25 is going in this week to be rebarreled in 6.5 CM and a new LR308 upper in 6.5 CM is on the build list as well.
It will be interesting to see if the 308 Winchester survives as a bench rest / competition caliber in the future. It will always have a military roll and a hunting roll but, competitors will gravitate to the hottest thing going to stay on top of the podium.
