I think you need to read the Declaration of Independence. It may clear up any confusion, misinformation, or perhaps incorrect history lessons you were taught on the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. It may not be entirely your fault. It could be your teacher’s fault for misinforming you.

It *does* say you can have *the means* to overthrow the government.
Just like it says you can carry a gun, but doesn't say you can fire it wherever you want.

The Declaration of Independence says you not only have a right to overthrow the government in certain circumstances, but a duty to do so.
But, and here's the kicker, while you have a right to successfully overthrow the government in those circumstances, you do not have a right to try and fail.
If you try and fail, the founding fathers fully expected you to be executed for the attempt.
What this boils down to is that a successful insurrection can establish a legitimate government (a concept the nobility of Europe at the time would have rejected, they still believed the right to rule was basically hereditary).
