Definately not in the original question but, the M1 Garand is available in 308 Winchester as well.
Still not clear. Are you looking for the most reliable 308 or the most reliable in AR platform because the AR won't be the most reliable.
ha ha ha. again. that is why i prefaced my response in post 4. then proceeded to answer the OP questions,.....even his ambiguity, in my following posts.
post #4 answers the title question.
post #8 answers the OP paragraph 1. a true stoner design.
post #10 answers the OP "spirit of the question. a modified stoner design AR type 308
so no matter how you shake it....even with a poor title/question by the OP i gave all the answers/suggestions he could want.
i am happy to continue respond and support my answers, but you will never have me suggest any semi auto 308 POS like bushmaster/dpms/anderson.
im here if you need me.
A battle rifle is Loosely defined as a magazine-fed semi-auto in 308. My original question was for the most reliable battle rifle, AR 308. meaning an AR platform in 308, and being the most reliable in that platform.
I knew you would have the nitty-gritty on the Arrow because I know you do have a lot of arrows stuff and I know you get to shoot a lot of different guns. I appreciate the answers/info.exhale. lemme put down y crack pipe.
any modern well made AR 308 rifle will be just as reliable as the next one.
i use aero stuff. it is nice. i have had fit and finish issues. i have had shipping issues. if you search arfcom you can see a posting under aero industry about me bashing them.
that being said, i build many many. so i see issues you may not.
mega is the way to go. perfect in every way.
buy a RCA BCG. they are the best for the money IMO.
have fun.
back to my crack pipe.
That would be my expectation. Bullet guy has the best solution for fixed mags. I do a good bit of shooting where the unsafe does not apply and i practice all the magazine changes I want with a full-featured rifle. But for the times that I do need to be concerned about having a full-featured rifle, Bullet guys solution makes that null and void because it becomes a fixed mag.Good question Celt, Lots of good stuff here. If you fix the mag, wouldn't any of these , including the SCAR 17 be legal in this state?
Robin
Ok, next question......
If building my own, who makes the most accurate barrel?
At what price?
Proof
Mega
Blackhole
Precision firearms
Krieger
Lilja
Lothar walther
Well that depends. Ideally id want 3/4" groups with factory match ammo. What would that cost?
Thats reasonable, what the best in that price range then?$250-300
Not to derail the discussion, but some of the barrels have notations like "+2 gas system" (per below). Is the purpose of that to delay the extraction timing? How much potential impact would that have on accuracy?
OK, so the idea is to allow time for the pressure to drop to reasonable levels after the bullet has left the barrel, and prior to actuating the bolt, true? The extra 2 inches of gas system is to allow additional time for the bullet to exit (what I think of as) the extra length barrel? No accuracy impact. It is a dwell time thing.
26 inch is really at the outter limits of a rifle gas system. And the 6.5 has lots of pressure.
Generally I've seen 20" as the "optimal" barrel length for .308, is there also an "optimal" length for 6.5C? Judging from factory guns, they tend to be longer than .308.
Are any type of mag locks available for this? Can the action be opened for mag loading?not a stoner.
but the best one is the SCAR 17
Lmt is well over 9lbs(?)LMT. That is why it was selected by the British Army for their service rifle.
Read about it and why. The Brits are smarter than us and on top more cost effective than the SR25.
