It's just going to be a matter of whether or not I'll be able to fit the wood on top of the AR stock with enough material where it is still strong. The majority of the AR carbine stock will be there to take transfer of a lot of the recoil into the shoulder. The wood would mostly be sitting on top.

1. Remove as much of the AR stock as possible in the areas where it'll fit into the wood stock. This will help give you more wood inside the stock.
2. Cut it for shape.
3. Inlet the AR stock into the wood stock.
4. Use epoxy thinned with acetone to paint the inside of the wood. I did this on the inside of my wood forend because I had to remove quite a bit of wood to get it to slide over the action tube. By thinning the epoxy, it allows it to absorb into the wood a bit better.

I like the idea too.
I feel like it needs brass somewhere I'm just not sure where, where it would be functional and look cool.
My only nitpick on @Sixbennetts mockup is that I think the picatinney at the front throws everything off because it's too angular and modern. I get that its functional, I just think it looks out of place.

That was a cheap add on from back in the day. It will have to go when I make the switch to the extended mag tube and bayonet lug.

Here is the forend after some antiquing. Roughly sanded and it's amazing what a hammer and differen't sized nails will do. I am figuring to leave some of the old stain on to make it uneven and blotchy.

First pass with the Minwax gunstock stain. I also had the idea to use one of my alcohol based illustration markers (which looks similar to water color) and use it to darken the edges, dents and grooves. The photos don't do it justice and it looks a lot darker than it really is. So imagine the dark spots a little lighter. It still gives a great beat up, well worn feel I think. I may do another pass with the gunstock stain and then I will be putting Tung oil over it.

Alright, back from Arizona/Utah and back to completing this project. I'm figuring to apply one more coat of Gun Stock stain to the forend before I apply Tru-Oil. I know I goofed up and said Tung Oil earlier, but I really meant Tru-oil. I just ordered the unstained A1 style pistol grip from Gene @ Blackgunswood.com, which I will antique and stain to match the forend.

Received the wooden A1 grip today and went to work on it. Did some distressing and gave it a coat of stain. Will likely sand some off in a few hours and re-apply. It may end up a different color than the forend (likely because of different woods used) who cares... I also installed the wooden forend.
Looks pretty sweet, good choice on stock

The rail at the front will either be distressed and maybe painted more of a grey color or removed entirely. The thing though, is that I need nuts to fasten the heat shield to the barrel. Right now the rail has threaded holes that secure the heat shield.

Once the wood is set, it's on to distressing the metal some.
How do you like the caddy? iirc CAA predates arm braces and the caddy came out just before or the same time as an the firs SBtactical arm brace

It's nice. I've had it since probably 2011. It gives your cheek that much more real estate to snug up to and adds a beefier look to the M4 stock. It also has two storage tubes on either side where you can store small survival items.

Pistol grip is all done and installed. Did sosme light distressing of the receiver and other parts. Didn't want too much, just subtle. It will wear on it's own with age. I also found a Mossberg 590A1 mag tube and barrel on ebay so I splurged. There was a maveric 88, 8 round mag tube and barrel on ebay as well, but it was minus the bayonet lug and it looked more beat up than I'm comfortable with. This 590A1 is pulled off a new gun, so...

Here is the 590A1 barrel and mag tube I bought.
I am also thinking about what to do with the stock. I'm starting to consider maybe finding a old well worn and weathered piece of leather to make some kind of wrap to go around the stock. That might be easier to do than something with wood and would, I feel, match well with the wood furniture.

590A1 barrel and mag tube arrived today! Wasted no time installing it. It was kind of a bear to get on. The barrel is thicker walled than my original and I couldn't put the barrel on with the mag tube in place. It just wouldn't line up. I had to put the bolt back in, then insert the barrel, then line up the pump, then slide the mag tube and spring through. Also hadn't realized they red Loctited the mag tube so I had to use the heat gun on it. It's a whole new gun and I'm digging it. The barrel heat shield will need some fitting. I have to find nuts for the screws so that I can clamp it down around the barrel.

Thanks. I need a rear sight, a bayonet (which I'm leaning towards an M7) and I need to figure out what to do with the buttstock.
