Me too and I staked several for friends then sold it for $10 less so it was like renting.
I think the set I bought was like $325 IIRC....

Not that I am any kind of fine craftsman but I always look at the castle nut staking or lack of it to gauge if the builder knows what they're doing.

I would not purposely select a heavier stock. Magpul CTR is a good, basic go to option.

Besides LWRCs ain't that heavy. Unless you plan to benchrest the rifle everytime do what you can to keep it lighter.
When we gonna meetup to shoot this masterpiece of yours?
. Recommendations?
The threads are deeper and stronger on the mil spec.Among the reviews for the STR is one that says, "It doesn't pull my beard." LOL.
Here's a stupid newbie question. What's the difference between milspec and commercial?
I've been using a razor blade to hold the detent while installing pin.I highly recommend getting the tool for the front pivot pin install. I've built half a dozen lowers without one and this is the most fiddly step IMO. On a couple I got it first try - on a couple I had trouble. The detent loves to shoot out, hit the ceiling and find a hiding place. Bought a tool on Amazon recently and have yet to use it. Happy to lend it.
One last question for the night. What tools am I going to need in order to put together the lower? I have a bunch, but are there any specific to the build that I'll need? Trying to have everything ready to go for when I get out to PA in a few days.
Okay, re-watched a few videos this morning. Another question. If you stake the castle nut, what happens if you want to change anything?

Use blue locktite
LWRC isn't heavy weight though right? More like midweight. Their complete rifles are around 7lbs I think, which is actually lighter for a piston setup. Besides for anything other than a bench gun. I don't think an AR components should any heavier than absolutely necessary. What someone else already said. You dont want a light stock with a heavy upper. You need to balance the weight. Using a light stock with a heavy upper will make the upper feel even heavier.
It also makes recoil lighter since all the weight is up front. That could be a good thing. What someone else already said. You dont want a light stock with a heavy upper. You need to balance the weight. Using a light stock with a heavy upper will make the upper feel even heavier.
My preference is as light as possible coming from a combat orientated standpoint.
Fuck. I thought my keyboard/grassroots warrior experience was gonna be enough to cut it here
Me too. In fact, I think civilians are generally better shots too.View attachment 8657
If it makes you feel better I'very done waaay more shooting as a civilian than I did in the Army.
What's the difference between ex-military and someone who's never served?
The ex military guy is damn proud to be a civilian!
