You are a guy who has been deployed numerous times to combat zones. I know you don't truly believe that a fixed magazine is adequate for defense.

I think any weapon in your hand is better than none. I have several fixed mag guns stashed around the house. As a matter of fact all of my lever guns are fixed mag guns.

I guess if you treat the AR as a disposable gun that can't be reloaded when it counts or if it jams and you have multiple around the house, then okay if you say so.
Lever guns....well.....yea. I'm gonna start using muzzle loaders. I'll stash 30 around the house.

I do treat all the guns as disposable, when they run dry, they get dropped in favor of a fully loaded one. I don't carry spare mags through the house.

my friend just called them on these and they will work on 300 blackout too .. were getting 2 and trying them out ..
I had emailed them. They said it works with 300blk but there was some issues sometimes. They said they will make a dedicated 300blk in the future.
No plan should rely on one location for a defense weapon. Very short sided. If a plan can fail it will. Assuming that you are an unlucky one, an equipment failure relying on one gun or an inaccessible location, it will not matter how many mags you have.

This is why it may be prudent to stash 30 single shot muzzle loaders around the house.
I bet the flaw with that plan is, you are not trained or proficient enough in multiple weapons systems from days gone by.
If that's all you got....imo, i rather not get shot by a 50 cal muzzie or shotgun than most magazine caliber pistol or rifles that you are alluding too. Not sure if you hunt but have you seen to damage those do?

Thought I'd add a little substance to this thread, cuz it's almost 1am and I'm bored
Heard about a new fixed mag option similar to what the OP mentioned, being sold at AllStar. Went over yesterday for a demo and ended up picking one up for $25. Basically, it's a hollow mag with a stripper clip that helps feed into the top-down load of my fixed mag AR. I'll let the pics do the talking:
As you can see, it holds the stripper clip (it comes w/ 3) and sits over the mag. You then just press down on the back of the rounds and they load in. It loads 10 at a time. Apparently it's supposed to be able to fit into a mag pouch. It takes some practice, but I can do it at a decent clip now. The last round is tricky, but with more practice, I can get it in easier.
This is good for me at the range or whatever. Just load up 3 stripper clips, then run them. I'm happy w/ my fixed mag for now, because I can have everything else. Don't worry, if it comes down to it, I can remove the SAFEmod from my receiver and reinstall my mag release fairly quickly, so in a SHTF situation, it wouldn't be an issue for me.
I just thought it was kinda neat and it's not awful, lol.

Seems a little better then pulling your gun apart and feeding one at a time but is no comparison to what this thread was started about. The pain in the ass part is splitting the gun to reload. Still have to do this with your mechanism.

Yeah, it (ARSafe) probably seemed like a good idea when developed, but there was a video on it (or something just like it) in the YouTube recommended list when watching the Mean Loader video, and all I could think was, "well, that just became obsolete." Works for the range, I guess, but not much else. With the Mean Loader, it looks like you could actually run a carbine course (or the like) pretty well.
Anyway, for those in Rochester, if you buy an ARSafe (or Mean Loader), make sure to cut the strippers down to hold just 5 rounds. Even if your fixed internal mag is 5-round limited, having a stripper that holds 10 could be considered possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, which is forbidden:

Am I missing something? The original video show the loading being done with the AR 'NOT' being broke in half. That was the beauty of it. It appears to have some kind of device adapter on the ejection port, but the gun didn't have to be opened up to fill the magazine.

That one looks modified near the ejection port to accept that mag loader. That's why I went with the Yankee Hill extended takedown pins, this hinges in a snap. I love them. The ARSAFE isn't perfect, but it works :shrug: For 25 bucks, I figured what the hell. I've wasted my money on worse things.

In the City, itself, you are only allowed to have 5 rounds in a semi-auto, center-fire rifle, whether the mag is fixed or detachable. Separately, you can't possess an Ammunition Feeding Device (as defined above.)
Interestingly, it says that for a rifle to be an Assault Weapon based on capacity, "capable of being loaded" is defined as possessing the rifle and an Ammunition Feeding Device (capacity > 5) that can be used with it. However, for the Ammunition Feeding Device, it does not specifically state that "being capable of being attached to or utilized in" also requires possessing such a rifle. So, technically, possessing a 10-round AR magazine - on its own - is illegal, but possessing an (otherwise compliant) AR with only 5-round magazines is not. I originally made my pump-operated upper, expecting to be able to use 10-rounders with it, but then I saw the Ammunition Feeding Device restriction. Might be able to make a case in court, but it wasn't worth it for a manually operated AR.

You're not missing anything. In my build thread I put that I was making it compliant and splitting it open. This works for me. It may not work for all.
There are two different devices in this thread. The Mean Loader (shown in OP) feeds in from the ejection port (with or without the option feed lips) and does not require breaking the rifle open. Cleck just posted the ARSafe feeders, which basically just assist in quickly feeding a fixed mag with stripper clips from the top, which does require breaking the rifle open. Two totally different levels of usability, if you ask me.
The Mean guys are going to post a video that shows it is quicker to use their loaders than to swap mags (on a non-fixed build), which might make it useful even for real AR users to top off a mag.

Heck, I'm okay with whatever way anyone wants to use in coping with the atrocity that has befallen this state. I thought it was a pretty cool mechanism that allowed one to load up without breaking the gun open. I was hoping to hear how it works from someone that has no interest in its marketability.

Hell, I'm just waiting for a day when I can go back to using real magazines and mag releases. Until then, it's whatever works best for you. I do like how the Mean Guys setup looks/works though, pretty cool. I just got this setup first.
