New option for 'fixed mag' SAFE Act?

Nothing unsafe about the fixed mag option. My AR has yet to malfunction but if it were the floor plate takes all of half a second to remove and empty it's contents to where ever I want, then proceed to clear the issue. I can't stick my fingers up through the magwell even if the mag weren't in it so that's of no concern to me.
An alternate stock isn't for everyone even if it works for most.

That doesn't work when a double feed is hung up on top of the feed lips of the magazine. You then have to use a screwdriver and hope that the round chambered isn't live and isn't say off accidently by the tip of the second bullet or the screwdriver itself.

I haven't read anything about the 10/20 mags but I would imagine they might take issue with them, being able to revert to 20. I'm using a 10rd P-Mag which disassembles super easy and are known reliable. I'm of the opinion that if your AR is malfunctioning there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. I honestly haven't fire an AR yet that had feed problems. I can see the occasional, well, rare, parts breakage leading to a problem. Or of course, the wrong parts match being used to build the rifle in question. But once again, something that needs to be fixed.Of the other group of people I personally know who shoot ARs, zero feed issues.

How hard is the primer going to be struck prying the suck round out of the feed lips? I don't believe a primer will fire unless it's struck with really good force by design.
I can take a 209 out, as that's all I have on hand, and press a screwdriver into it tomorrow for proof of concept.

There's always a cause behind that hickup. Maybe inconsistencies in loads or maybe the extractor is getting worn etc.

Honestly, I don't know if it would fire. I have however seen a double feed with a live round in the chamber followed by another live round.

Granted, it was steel cased wolf ammo but it could happen even with good ammo. All it takes is an out of spec case, not enough powder, a worn extractor, or a worn buffer spring.

I'm sure you keep your gun clean but any introduction of sand into it and you can no longer clear it properly via tap, rack, bang.

Then you have the fact that you cannot clear a loaded magazine. You have to manually cycle and extract every live round while putting a dimple in the primer.

That is why I personally can never go fixed magazine. The system wasn't designed for that.

You just need a mag release that requires an allen wrench to remove *or insert* a mag. Should be enough to keep even the most wary NYGunner feeling safe from SAFE, yet the mag can be dropped to clear a malfunction in less than a minute.

Alternately, if you find yourself in some situation where you feel its unsafe to clear without removing a magazine that isn't removable, you could unscrew the buffer tube and remove the bolt that way. PITA, but would provide a safe procedure for clearing that particular type of jam even if you have a truly permanently fixed mag.

If you expect to run into one often enough for the PITA nature of that solution to be an issue, you need to figure out whats wrong, rather than looking for an easier solution to clear it.

Simple press & slide of the bottom plate and behold the mag plate including spring, follower and rounds will come out leaving whatever is stuck in the chamber just as if you dropped the mag albeit with a slight narrower opening from undermeath due to the feed lips. I have fixed mag and neutered ARs...and both types are a pain in the ass and not as designed. They all suck now due to this fucked up commie state of ours.

Keyword - Featureless. What makes these so called "ergonomic features" justify a ban? Does the lethal function of the firearm some how change if a stock is adjustable? Or a pistol grip is removed ?

If you live in NY and don't have an AR or AK variant don't bother. Just get a Ruger Mini -14 or Springfield M1-A (if u have $$$$). There maybe other semi-autos w/ mag feed rifles

For now NY is a lost cause for "Defense Weapon" rifles. Escape if you can !

I actually like shooting my Ares Defense (now FightLite Industries ) SCR. I just like the traditional stock for some reason, probably because it is familiar to my old trusty Browning Citori shotgun.

Plus, not everyone uses PMAGs or even has the option to. Endplates on steel mags are a pain in the dick to get off when loaded.

Its not that much compression. No different that an sks. If your going to have a fixed mag than I would certainly recommend a pmag or any type that has an easier floor plate release. Hell they are only $11-13.

Its not that much compression. No different that an sks. If your going to have a fixed mag than I would certainly recommend a pmag or any type that has an easier floor plate release. Hell they are only $11-13.

The SKS is much different. It has a trap door. The follower and spring stay together. There is no tension when releasing the trap door. I'm not saying it's not doable on an AR magazine. I'm just saying that it isn't ideal.

Let's be honest here No one would do this on a Mini 14. They'd keep it with a conventional stock so that they could do regular magazine changes. At least I wouldn't.

I mean the guys that had their Mini 14's in one of those tactical stocks with the pistol grip and collapsible butt like pictured below.

When the law took place, they simply removed those stocks and replaced them with a conventional one rather than look for ways to fix the magazine to keep features that do not affect function.

Good point about the buffer tube. It can be a bit of a bitch because of the castle nut. A buffer tube that was designed to be removed easily without a wrench would make clearing rounds a lot easier and safer.

Same here, though I did have more than one firearm. I kept a handful of ammo around, buying in bulk only for range days. Never owned an "assault weapon" or wanted one pre-safe either. I hadn't touched a semi-auto rifle except my Nylon 66 since the Army.

I have three uppers in three different calibers. NONE of them can use polymer mags. It absolutely IS as bad as 'you' think. Most mags I have, you need some sort of tool to get the baseplate off even when the mag is empty and not attached to the gun.
