New option for 'fixed mag' SAFE Act?

What would be the ideal, yeh, ideal, stockholm syndrome comming back must be..
What would be ideal for our fubared plight would be a magazine which could be reloaded without having to remove it. Perhaps some sort of rotary mag, like on a Krag rifle. Like a tiny drum that you load from a gate.

I use a 6.8 because its the lightest, shortest gun I have in semi auto ( barrel is 14.7 plus muzzle brake). I have a 223 and a 204. 204 would be dumb because this one is the most jammable because it uses 223 mags. All guns have dedicated 5 rnd mags in them for hunting purposes.

Exactly. Besides, I can move about the house ( if I have to) much easier with my HD weapon of choice ( .45 8+1 with extra mag) than I could with an AR. This is my personal preference since I've practiced with my .45 for many more years than I have with the AR.

Now back to the original post. I think that any innovation that helps make it easier to load a fixed magazine is worth taking a look at.

Yep. If god forbid any of us are involved in a justified shooting I'd be damn sure I'm within the law 110% here in NY. No way the prosecutor, DA, or who knows how many Troopers are going to let anything slide. If you have a non compliant rifle or mags you go to jail, it's that simple. Keyboard warrior tough doesn't mean squat in court or anywhere else, unless maybe 10s of thousands do the same thing at the same time. Even then I won't bet money on it.
There are very few LEOs that I would trust to overlook unconstitutional laws.

It might not be. The handgun is still legal. The AR wouldn't be.

As far as the handgun goes, I think you'd have to be in front of a very lenient prosecutor because by law she's not allowed to shoot a handgun if she doesn't have a permit. And isn't safe storage part of the Safe Act? So she shouldn't even have access to it.

My fiance and I share a safe; I store my guns in there, and she stores her money/jewelry/checkbook/etc in there. We both know the combination and someone I trust has a backup key in a safe (HA) place. I'm the only one with a pistol permit. I don't own a shotgun, and I don't yet have a dedicated home defense rifle. She knows that if something happens when I'm not home, she is to use any and all means to defend herself.

After she takes down the killer rapist, would you rather your wife now have to spend a night or 2 in jail and have to defend herself or would you rather get something legal for her to use like a rifle, shotgun, or pistol calibered carbine?

Believe me when I say she's not a shooter, she'd be much more at home with a solid object like a bat, chair, frying pan etc. A gun would just end up in the wrong hands if it started in hers. If she was even slightly proficient with a firearm it would be something she could control like maybe a 20g. So no, she still wouldn't be handling any of my handguns.

You're totally correct. NY law enforcement system would try (with full force) to put me under the jail if I used a "forbidden" firearm to defend my home.
Meanwhile there are (some) criminals on probation in this state that have prohibited firearms in their possession (in there home). And Law enforcement system RARELY inspect their homes for items that would violate the terms of their probation. That would be too labor-some.

PS - also gang members out there on probation that are "near-never" home inspection visited by PO's
PSS - LEO and PO's can inspect any person's home on probation without a warrant.

It sucks that we have to even have this conversation. My biggest fear is already a reality, fixed mags and Thordsens are the "new normal." Its like people forgot the old ban even existed. I have no doubt that eventually somebody will use a Thordsen or a convert a fixed mag (as we all know anybody can do) to OEM, commit a crime and there will be a new law rammed down our throats. The only way to to protect the future of the Second Amendment in NY is to overturn these laws at SCOTUS otherwise we're just bidding time until they take away these firearms too.

Just think about the main core of these gun / AWB laws. It is based on a Semi-auto having certain "ergonomic" features. Nothing to do with practical functions. (It looks evil, it looks unsafe) Now apply that same law standards to the 1st or any other Amendment - will it hold up to strict scrutiny ?

PS If 10rds limit is ok and safe to use, what's to stop them from picking 5rds as a safe place ??

I don't have evil black rifles but if I did, I would have a featureless and a fixed mag. The speed loader for the fixed mag looks like a nice option. If I had a fixed mag AR (which I don't) I may try out the speed loader.

Here is the problem with solutions like this: SAFE was passed in part under the guise that limiting to 10 rounds and outlawing guns with evil features would slow down a shooter and in theory reduce the devastation a nut job may cause (bit it an honest reason or not, it was presented that way.) If companies circumvent the intent but developing ways to load the gun faster, Cuomo will come back around and work on stricter restrictions. I doubt he would simply restrict speed loaders. If he is going to go after items like this, while he is at it, he will overreach. He is more likely to restrict all AR style rifles regardless of modifications to make them 'legal.'

Still a cool idea for those who choose a fixed mag option.

Keyword - Featureless. What makes these so called "ergonomic features" justify a ban? Does the lethal function of the firearm some how change if a stock is adjustable? Or a pistol grip is removed ?

If you live in NY and don't have an AR or AK variant don't bother. Just get a Ruger Mini -14 or Springfield M1-A (if u have $$$$). There maybe other semi-autos w/ mag feed rifles

For now NY is a lost cause for "Defense Weapon" rifles. Escape if you can !

the fixed mag option, is very unsafe, when you have a jam. Im not sure i would feel safe trying to get a live round out, and I'm pretty sure the range master won't like it one bit....I hope the law gets changed. All i know, is that I have 18 more years, before I can get out of this state.

My AR has yet to malfunction but if it were the floor plate takes all of half a second to remove and empty it's contents to where ever I want, then proceed to clear the issue. I can't stick my fingers up through the magwell even if the mag weren't in it so that's of no concern to me.
An alternate stock isn't for everyone even if it works for most.

oh ok, I was under the impression that floor plate had to be fixed too, Im ASSuming now, that that only applies to 10/20 mags. Correct?

I haven't read anything about the 10/20 mags but I would imagine they might take issue with them, being able to revert to 20. I'm using a 10rd P-Mag which disassembles super easy and are known reliable. I'm of the opinion that if your AR is malfunctioning there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. I honestly haven't fire an AR yet that had feed problems. I can see the occasional, well, rare, parts breakage leading to a problem. Or of course, the wrong parts match being used to build the rifle in question. But once again, something that needs to be fixed.Of the other group of people I personally know who shoot ARs, zero feed issues.
