When you drive from NY to CA do you observe the State Speed Limit signs posted? Do you obey their liquor laws when purchasing or consuming? Do you automatically declare and pay your own State taxes for property purchased outside NY? Do you pay attention to laws at all?

There funny thing is "FIREARM" laws are one of those things that although some may take for granted, depending upon which state they reside in (free/restricted), that have some consequences attached to. Therefore, it would behoove you, to "KNOW" the laws of the land you plan to be in, or suffer those consequences. Ignorance will not suffer as a defense, let alone in NY. And claiming it is your "Right" won't get you anything either and it doesn't matter how big a soapbox you want to stand on to shout your proclamations that you're being violated!

I'm the most ardent 2A supporter you'll find... But that isn't a "do whatever I want just because" get out of jail free card! I don't agree with NY laws, but it is what it is... I make my choices and knowingly will suffer any consequences for the decisions I make. Crying about it or saying they can't do this or do that is infantile! The point is that the N.Y. possession (nor carry) law is so insane and illogical that people in free America don't even think to ask about it.

They know you need a permit to carry lots of places, but the idea that you might need a permit just for an unloaded gun locked in a case is as foreign to them as the pants pocket law I described above would be to you.

Unless you live under a rock, you know gun laws are more strict in other states.
As far as your Jeep reference, those only apply if you want to register your Jeep in PA.
So if youre from NYS, those laws do not apply.
However, if you are going to register your Jeep in PA, im pretty sure most would find out what is legal.

There are a lot of NY'ers that don't know all the gun laws in NYSSR. Teaching hunter safety courses sometimes we have law enforcement show up for a little talk, you wouldn't believe the questions, and sometimes even these officers can't answer them. One even had some kind of book that was about as big as a Websters dictionary, excused himself for about twenty minutes to try and find an answer to a question and came up empty. The point is that they may think "I know I can't carry in N.Y., I'm not even going to try. I'm just going to keep it locked in a box until we get to the range". The idea that that could possibly be illegal in a country where the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed never even occurs to them to ask.

In fact, many believe we have it WORSE than we do.
You cannot believe how many times ive been told that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a NYS CCW unless you are a business owner, or know someone.
A guy in Pittsburgh told me that EVERYONE in NYS must register long guns.
A guy in WV told me that in NYS you are not allowed to carry a gun for self defense, only hunting and target.
Obviously alot of people think all of NY have the laws of NYC.
In my travels overwhelmingly gun owners know we have it bad. They dont know how bad, but they would not consider just bringing a gun to NY without going online or making a call to find out the rules.

Let me ask you this. Perhaps this analogy is a little better since you like to look past analogies as ridiculous and focus on the example rather than the point of the analogy.

Pretend for a moment you aren't a cop and instead are a plumber. You drive through DC, get pulled over. You didn't bring your guns because well it's illegal in DC. You know that. Your vehicle somehow gets search like it always magically gets searched in these incidents. In your trunk they find your leather bracelet that had inert 9mm casings in the loops of the leather that you wore last night. You know like this one.

You get charged and booked. In your mind you would have never thought that inert, spent casings would be illegal. It's ridiculous to even consider. No state does that.

Well, No state makes it illegal to possess an unloaded pistol without a permit but NY. That girl may have found it just as ridiculous to even consider that you can't possess and transport an unloaded gun. It never even crossed her mind like it probably wouldn't even cross your mind to have that bracelet with "INERT" cases and it being illegal.
