The governor’s plan would include four-year schools, including dozens of campuses that are part of the state university system, as well as the city’s university system — a once-free network whose tuition has risen and reputation has fallen over the last decade.
Under the proposal, the state would complete students’ tuition payments by supplementing existing state and federal grant programs — essentially covering the balance, though administration officials said some students could have their entire four-year education covered.

I like my guns, I'll recert, and don't need to shit a brick if I get stopped for some minor traffic incident. Call me what you want, I'll still have my guns.

I noticed that the recertification forms are in English only. NY is such a racist state.
If we have to legally confiscate all of your guns we want to know we got them all.

I agree. Not complying with an AR they don't know about in your closet or failure to dispose of standard capacity magazines is one thing. Not complying with this is totally different.
I suspect a lot of the tough guys here have no such issues renewing their PA, Florida, and Connecticut non resident licenses every 5 to 7 years.
There is fighting and then there is being foolish. In the end, it's all talk anyway.
I agree, the county and the state already have all of this information but their record keeping probably sucks. This is just a do-over to fix years and years of half assed record reporting.
This will make it easier if one day we demand a state licensing system that eliminates the personal bias of local liberal judges.

We can vote in our local judge's. Not so on a state level.
State level system wouldn't need an arbitrary decision by a judge. Think Utah.

Ok, so riddle me this batman... if the county record keeping sucks (and indeed, in some cases it might), exactly what the fuck are the SP going to check your recert against? I would venture to guess that most folks are simply going to take the info off of their permit and transfer it to the form.
You are assuming the NYSP are going to check if the guns you list match the county list? That seems almost impossible.
I think the only thing the NYSP are going to check are the databases they can plug your name into.

Is it an oversight on their part, a "Gotcha" to be able to suspend your permit or do they think that everyone will do it online or well in advance of the due date?
On the form they do offer the option to 'Opt out" of disclosing that you have a permit and they offer 5 reasons. The last is an opportunity for you to tell them why you shouldn't be on a list.
Lets see how that works out....

Option 4 is the real catchall. Lots of anti-gun dumbfucks out there, I do not want to end up on the butt plug of the month mailing list just because some snowflake filed a foil request.

We are actually submitting our information to a NYSP data base.
Is this because the counties won't share the info with the State?
Did the NYSP issue my PP? Nope, county Sheriff did.
Are we Re-certifying with the county? Nope. Don't have to. They have it on record.
Is it for safety of the officer?
You could argue that , I guess. They could have a heads up as to weather pistols may be present when responding to a call but the last I knew, shotguns and rifles were just as dangerous...and machetes. Can't forget the edged weapons.
Thugs and gangbangers usually don't have permits so they won't be on the official list.

The counties have submitted all of the info to the NYSP. There is already a database and they can look up information. This was the database released a few years back and some a-hole made a website for it, it can still be found online.
When you looked at the database you could see that it didn't get updated or maintained. Just added on to. If you left the state or died you were not removed. My old address had 3 license holders listed. All old property owners.
This is a way for the state to create a clean list that gets updated every 5 years. So, while the county my have issued your permit it is NY state law that grants that authority and regulates what you can do with it.

The purpose is control. They already know what you have. When you submitted your application to your county, once it was approved, a copy went to the NYSP. Every amendment you've made was also sent to the NYSP.
They wanted this recertification for many reasons.
-to prevent guns from dead relatives ending up in the dangerous hands of their family where they will bury them deep in a closet.
- to prevent the dangerous individual who failed to inform them that he moved away and still carries on his permit with no expiration date when he visits.
-to prevent the dangerous individuals who are licensed from creating havoc after a doctor reports them into a database because he's taking anti anxiety medications because his wife died.
Many of these dangerous people fall through the cracks when they have permits that don't expire and now they'll be able to catch them.
That's the real purpose.
