Okay after 24 hours to savor this shit and reviewing with fellow gun owners I now have this question.
The NY State Police - Not the judge or the county clerk what us to list every gun and serial number on the web site or on paper.
Now put your ear up to the computer.
I have already paid money to the County Clerk to register this information.
I and YOU - WE have followed the law.
Now because the task of gathering all this information would be quite costly to do, They want you and I - WE to input this info into their web site which then makes it very easy to add into one big GIANT DATABASE.
This does not seem right.
If you register ONLINE you make it easy for the bastards.
If you do it by paper, they have to type in all that data.

I also pity the fool who puts in a gun that was not properly registered in the past. He will self incriminate himself into a jail cell.

What happens if, just for S&Gs, 2...3...4...500 people put down the same gun info and send it in? Then what? They have to track down to the county level and see what bill of sale exists where and...?

Not buying it.

everyone seems to b missing a point, the state police want a certification database, but if something is "off" or needs to fixed on your permit or if someone decides to revoke our permits, all that work falls to the county and it's issuing officer.

So the NYSP will be collecting data, but everyone one esle will be doing the heavy lifting

With all due respect, I very clearly did not miss that point, and I agree, It's pretty glaring.

I have pistols on my permit that I never had a BGC for. (*GASP*, but before SAFE that is how it was done. Cash and carry.)

Who tracks that stuff?

Who confirms it?

2 amendments ago a CC screwed up my permit with an incorrect serial? Who screwed it up? Me in this re-cert process? The state? The clerk? The 1989 Denver Broncos?

How many old timers with "I sold/lost that gun years ago" stories!?

Yeah, too confusing. None for me, thanks. :)

Is this just a one time thing for permits issued before Jan 2013, or is this going to be a perpetual thing where we continually have to re-certify periodically?
