When I served it was don't always don't tell. I can tell you, we had some gay men and women serving with me. Our best shot was a very feminine man who was a nightmare to fight. We all knew he was gay and no one cared.
If a person is a patriot they should serve. If they want a sex change they should pay for it.

Yes there are, I don't know how many there are in the entire military but, they are currently serving on active duty.

There aren't Transgender women posing as men with prosthetic penises serving in the US military. The same goes the other way.
And it isn't discrimination. I couldn't make Force Recon when I was in. I wasn't big and strong enough. My stamina was not what they were looking for. Was that discrimination? No. I was unfit to serve in those elite units.
If my eyesight was bad, I couldn't be a pilot. It's that discrimination? No. I would be unfit to be a fighter pilot.
If I had mental issues of depression where I cut myself repeatedly and they didn't let me in. Would that be discrimination? No. I would be unfit to serve.

They are serving without fear of official repercussions though because they have to be assigned a team of "specialists" when they tell their doctor, the command is aware of who they are and get regular briefings about their " condition."

Yep, to be considered transgendered you don't have to have surgery. There are things that you have to do but, I really wasn't paying close attention in the briefing. I know it involves a seeing a counselor, a medical doctor and a few other specialists.
