Minimum wage isn't so much about "you must pay everyone at least this much" as it is "if you can't do at least this much work in an hour you can't have a job".

I guess if your goal is to increase the number of unemployed people, then this is a great plan.

With inflation, sky high rent and interest rates, $20 an hour is the new $10.50 per hour. Home depot an walmart are paying over that anyway.

Wow you blokes are even way behind Australia for a change first time I've been able to say that without laughing we've got wages way higher than that it's why my country its why we are so f***** up we also had this you cannot sack a worker without good reason didn't that 1 cause a lot of unemployment because nobody was game enough to employ anybody because they're worried about the unfair dismissal laws.
I've always said everything going on in Australia 20 years ago was a testbed for the states looks like I was bloody right only got to look at all these new crazy and insane gun laws you blokes are facing and it's been standard procedure here for more than 30 bloody years

It's a very workable plan, and it's doing very well for them.

The only flaw is that a lot of the people who think they will be in charge, will find out quickly that they are the most dangerous and will find themselves edited out of a lot of picture and articles.

Funny thing is my dad retired and worked as a part time school resource officer carrying a gun and it was $21/hour. Seems the government cares about everyone’s pay except those they pay.

Well as long as their is a min wage its should keep up with cost of living. Here in Westchester a 1bedroom apartment in most places starts at $1800 a month. Even $20 an hour you cant live.
and yes my friend works at home depot an makes $22 per hour. In westchester that is. Might be different upstate.
To me its insane that a company like Amazon which is worth over 960 billion dollars pays delivery drivers $18 per hour. The company is worth more then entire county's.

Too many people confuse minimum wage with living wage. If you're trying to support a family on a min wage job then you've failed. If you don't make enough money to live where you want to, then you need to either move or improve your skills to make more money. The only true minimum wage is $0.00, which is where this will send many people as businesses stop hiring people that they normally would.

Why would you pay a delivery driver more than $18/hr ?

That's all *the job* is worth.

And why does the cost of an apartment even factor into that ?

When you decide to buy some ammo, does it matter what the rent on the guy running the machine's apartment is ?

Are you willing to pay more for a case of 9mm made in Manhattan than the equivalent made I'm rural Arkansas because the rent is higher ?

If you want more than $18/hr to deliver for Amazon, you'll find yourself unemployed soon enough no matter what the minimum wage is. At that price it's worth a lot of money to eliminate your job entirely.

Maybe you can make more programming the delivery drones that replace you.

I am against a minimum wage, I have always been against it.

I am against a Maximum wage as well.

I hate the phrase, "Living Wage", made up term to appease stupid people.

I do not like the phrase, "Fixed Income either. Another made up term.

There are jobs that are worth more than other jobs. Some jobs, the pay should be low because the expectation of duties are limited. Not saying that one job is better or worse than another; most jobs are as important as the next.

Take for example a Prison Guard, makes say, $30 per hour. Burger flipper makes $15 per hour. Guard makes double the money. You raise the flipper to $20, you gonna raise the guard to $40? If not, how many are going to do the nasty work of the guard for just a bit more than the flipper of burgers?

Also my wife is a practice manager at a laser eye center an they pay her $23 an hour. She runs the office. Shes been looking at other jobs an most wont pay much more. With out a front office the doctor does no business. Her boss walks into work with a $16k dress but gives bullshit raises. So a practice manager is a good solid position job. If she was on her own she wouldn't be able to live. She would be forced to live with her parents. It dont make sense to me.

It boils down to this. If someone is willing to do a job for $1, that’s what the job is worth in the marketplace. If no one will do it for that, it’s worth more. This theory applies to all employment.

Name a job that cant be done with a small bit of training? Thats irrelevant. The point is that the doctors whole practice relies on the staff. A doctor is making millions. The staff should be paid a respectable wage so that you can afford a 1bedroom apartment to live in. Its common sense.

An eye Surgeon for one. To answer the first question.

A doctor would not be a success if he or she was bad at their job either. Again, staff are easy to train for the job.

It is not the responsibility of employer to pay what a person/employee believes to be enough.
