I doubt it. There was text included at some point that linked the 5 year NYSP recertification to the completion of training. I was told that there was even abandoned suggestions for mandatory refresher training every 5 years. I think any grandfather or reprieve may be temporary.

The way I read it is if you have a permit prior to this enactment you do not need anything additional. Anyone after will need to do a 16 hour course to include 2 hours live fire to get a permit and again the same course upon 5 year recertification
I thought that’s what I read too, but I’m sure there’s another section in there stating the opposite.

With the carve out for security is it just for people who have a security guards license? Say for example I get a security guards license and then my girlfriend “hires” me as her personal private security guard.
Fine I should have clarified and said a pistol owner in NYS. This will make it pointless to have a concealed weapons permit in NYS. I will have to be careful with everything I do and if we go for a hike at a federal WMU because now NYS/county/city parks are off limits and we want to get ice cream or food, ops can’t do that now. This is ridiculous and people have seemingly been doing what will now be prohibited for years and years safely.
No you read it wrong. You don’t need it to keep your permit, but you’ll need it the first time you recertify.

Don’t be so sure of that since you don’t know what the live fire training requirements will be. You pistol permit may get revoked if you fail that part.

Bill is hard to read but this is a significant point. How much changes for carry versus no-carry. How much changes if you get your application in before the effective date. There's a lot of changes and not all of them are limited to carry. For instance "sensitive place" designation applies to rifles and shotguns and is a felony. Previously if you were carrying a permitted pistol in violation of restrictions I don't think that was a crime in itself, it could just lead to revocation. Now it's a felony, including for previously unrestricted long guns.
Yes, I understand @Saltwater60 is correct. That is what the staff tasked with publishing the crap told me. They gave me the impression, however, that the verbiage to have to repeat the training EVERY five years was considered and abandoned but that was more than 10 hours ago.
