I had the opposite experience. As always, I step up to the district table and when they ask me my name I show them my driver's license. They get apoplectic. "You don't have to show ID," the Dem poll watcher always exclaims hurriedly. "We all SHOULD," I reply before putting my ID back in my wallet.

The "Other businesses would have to explicitly say that they allow guns on their property" needs to be challenged on day 1. This is way to broad. The legislation should be if they don't want guns on their property they need to post a sign as many of the shall issue states do.

-We now need to ensure that guns are prohibited from mass transit, entertainment venues, religious institutions, and bars and restaurants where alcohol is served, just to name a few. I have introduced a bill that will make it a crime to possess guns at these “sensitive places.”
-I’ve also introduced a bill requiring a license to possess shot guns and rifles. This is common sense and should already be in place
-The third bill requires all firearm permit holders to have an evaluation from a mental health professional rather than merely stating that they are mentally fit which is what the current law requires.
-Another bill requires completion of a training course in order to obtain a license for a firearm under New York State law, and an advanced training course which includes time on the firing range for those seeking a license to carry a weapon in public. Requiring thorough training for all permit holders will help increase public safety as more guns are now likely to be carried out onto New York’s streets.
-Finally, I’ve introduced a bill which requires background checks prior to the renewal of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver. This will lead to license holders being screened every 5 years to ensure that they have no prior conviction of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, have not been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility pursuant to NYS mental hygiene, criminal procedure, and correction laws, and have not been reported by a medical health professional to likely engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to themselves or others.

Not feasible. No medical psychiatric professional will ever assume the risk of "clearing" anyone to own a firearm. Thus, nobody would ever get through the permitting process and everyone would be denied their 2A rights.

While they're at it, they should require more stringent requirements for police officers. In my limited experience with officers who are, to their credit, seeking additional training to improve their skills, they need much more practice. Most civilians at the courses are better marksmen than the police.

I venture say that I have been far more involved politically than the vast majority of even those here on this forum. I've canvassed, distributed fliers, worked phone banks, sought registrations, sought signatures to be put on ballots, and donated time to several campaigns. Has it gotten me anything ? No, I can't say that it has. Since the people I may have helped get elected are but a small handful of Statesmen in a corrupt system, their votes on any proposed legislation mean nothing, always being dwarfed by the NYC delegation of corrupt extremists in Albany, or for that matter, in DC.
The Rotten Apple could fall off and sink for all I care. In fact, I wish it would. They treat upstate with disdain. As far as they're concerned, the rest of the State is just there to send NYC their tax money and electricity. NYC gets whatever the hell it wants, at the expense of the rest of the State. Don't believe me ? Try driving across the State. You will quickly notice that the closer you get to the Big Shithole, the better the roads get. Appease the place that brings you the votes. The rest of the State can just go F themselves. I'm F'ing sick of it.

If you think the roads are better closer to NYC , I would hate to see the roads you travel on. Every time I go upstate, I am amazed how smooth the roads are compared to downstate .

I agree, but it was left wide open. Thomas specifically only said it cannot be a blanket area, but sensitive areas are permitted. What a sensitive area is has to be hashed out, but it was defined as where people congregate and LE is available. What congregate means is not defined nor is what is available.
In the end its likely to be, but Illinois FOID system is still in effect which is exactly what they want

To date the knee jerk reaction to the Sandy Point shooting, The Safe Act has done nothing to prevent crime of any sort! Overly apparent in NYC even to the blind! This event didn't take place in NY, yet Cumo used it to push this bullshit through at midnight.
Micro stamping, does nothing to prevent crime, although it may solve a crime. But this will require a data base to track down this type of ammunition. It would also require that the micro stamped portion of the ammunition be found! It could be years before NY can impose this and surely will cost more than a $1.
Age 21 to buy a long gun, unconstitutional based on Historical reference. Minute men were not required to be 21, nor are member of the armed services in present time. Long guns have been historically used to put food on the table, often by young men.

I'm sure they weren't ID-ing everybody. A call to the county elections board is on order!
I walked up to the table and two nice older ladies asked me my name. I told them my name and they read off my address and asked me if that was correct.
They did the same to the people in line before and after me.
No ID. No "what is your address", etc.
