There is no system in place to background check ammo purchases , so what’s your best guess at how they plan to do it?

Several States already do their own version of a NICS check. I don't think it would really be all that hard for NY to set up a similar system. They already have a database of existing pistol permit holders. The NYDOJ can easily provide arrest records. NYSAFE mandated mental health reporting ( whether or not that has actually happened is a different discussion ).

A lot of people want to say that this isn't going to happen, but Hochul has much more ambition than Cuomo ever did when it comes to this. Cuomo wanted NYSAFE to pad his bonafides so he could run for POTUS. I think Hochul knows she will never get anywhere near being a POTUS contender. She will, though, be the most progressive [ read: tyrannical ] executive she can. The semi-automatic license, pistol permits, and any other thing she can weave into a single massive database is just her method of controlling those in power see as a potential threat. They have manufactured their power, and let me tell you, they intend to keep it.

I live in NY, have multiple carry permits in different states, and have spent 0 combined hours in any sort of required training.

I agree, but it was left wide open. Thomas specifically only said it cannot be a blanket area, but sensitive areas are permitted. What a sensitive area is has to be hashed out, but it was defined as where people congregate and LE is available. What congregate means is not defined nor is what is available.

In the end its likely to be, but Illinois FOID system is still in effect which is exactly what they want

Hmmm......last year when I went to the State Fair, a pistol went with me. Concealed, and the bozo eyeballing everyone as they came through the gates never looked at me twice. Yes I saw the no guns sign, I just chose to ignore it.

Perhaps VA has changed their laws since I held a permit there around 2007, but at that time there was a requirement for live-fire training, and I had to qualify. In the end, you are cherry-picking one or two things but the premise stands. The training requirement has been and likely will remain upheld. States can require it if they want. And those states that require a permit, do they not require at least classroom work? That was more what I was talking about, I only mentioned the live-fire training as it pertained to me in the states I held a permit.

That may be, but an assemblyman (not mine or I would quote their name) who votes on this was told otherwise for this proposal. My assemblyman is voting against everything, was pissed off, and I did not try to get him explain any of the infringements since he agrees they are all bullshit.

Maybe so, but Hochul will intentionally overstep her boundaries knowing that it will take time for her to be reined in, and in the meantime it is causing her political adversaries ( us ) misery.

She still has full intention of going through with her semi-auto license bullshit, and nowhere in history was that a thing, so why would she feel constrained about a background check ?

Yeah. I get it, but the post got pretty covoluted and smelled like a legal brief.

I did check most of the states that did not have a live fire requirement in the January 2022 study posted and they had no State required training requirement.

The initial smell test was many of us here hold PA resident or non-resident ( me included) and know there is no training requirement. That could have been ... Period end of story.

I also did some checking and saw a concensus where it seems those States with a current training requirement call for a live fire segment (often accepting NRA or military training). I then even considered those States who dropped the training requirements. I spot checked, only VA did not call for live fire but Virginia required applicants to attend an in-person firearms course and “demonstrate competency with a handgun,” but it does not specifically mandate a shooting exercise.

I think it's a paperwork snafu.

Their systems can't deal with a permit that doesn't have any guns on it, so they just make up a rule you can't do that, because nobody is smart enough to make a "placeholder 0 caliber" pistol to put there.

From the briefings, essentially no concealed carry anywhere outside your home or car unless a private owner (as long as no kids or alcohol around) opts-in and posts a sign to allow concealed carry

All ammo purchases for hadguns or semi-autos to be face to face, showing ID (and apparently permit), and a background check is required.

Hell, no carrying in a Catholic Church because 1) it is a place of worship and 2) they serve sacrificial wine

I'm well aware of what Pennsylvania requires. I've had a PA permit for almost 30 years. I have permits from other States as well. Some originally required training, but accepted proof of military service in lieu of their prescribed course.
