When I was growing up in the 60s you could let your kids out at night without fear. Would you do that now? In the 60's and 70's you could probably walk through Baltimore or Ferguson. Can you do that now? In the 60s when I was growing up there were only 9K murders per year. It hasn't been in single digits in 30 or more years now. Aggravated assaults were under 200K back in the 60s. Up over a million since the 90's and even with the recent drop its still 750K. Rape - that's a bad one. Nobody wants to be raped. 17K back when I was a kid in Brooklyn. Broke 100K by the 90's and even after a short drop started trending up from 2010 through 2015. Where do I come up with this stuff? @MoMan based on the article he was arrested for having multiple firearms. You are correct it doesn't state anymore than that but it also doesn't state any less than that. If he was driving through New York and he had his fire arms secured as the federal law stipulates and he was coming from and going to a state where he was legally allowed to own and have those fire arms then he had nothing to worry about.
Even if the LEO screwed up and didn't know the laws, I'm very sure that once he was in front of the judge the judge would've dismissed everything based on Fed law, but obviously that did not happen, he was remanded to jail. So the question is why was he remanded to jail?
Put aside for a minute what we feel and hope the laws should be. Rather look at what the laws are and that we have no choice but to follow them.
