Do you know what would be nice……..
If the court took a look and examined the entire NY handgun licensing process and ruled on that without leaving open ends. I mean even the amendment procedure and differing levels of permitting need to be put through the constitutional ringer. I know for me personally, my collection of handguns would be considerably larger if it wasn’t a 2-5 day ordeal of bringing my receipt to the judge to ask permission to buy another gun , AFTER I already begged for permission for a permit, which usually requires time off from work to do so. Sounds ridiculous even typing it. And yes, I admit , NY and my wife wins, it ACTUALLY deters me sometimes from buying another gun.
Oh well, …….. one can dream I guess

what would be nice is that SCOTUS rules that pistol permits are a poll tax and ends them and also says Bad Guy don't obey gun laws

Interesting, it would prevent NY from skating their way out of a court decision, correct?

It would also make any ruling from the Supremes more likely to apply to all states, and not just a narrowly worded decision that would only apply to either the petitioners or only to NY.

Just heard on the radio one of the reps calling for a 10-11% tax on guns and ammo. Forget who but not NY state. All the same, we can’t have voter ID because blacks can’t afford it but we can put big taxes on guns, which is a much higher right (2 vs 15)?

It was probably Mark Levine, a Demoncrat State Delegate from Virginia, who keeps introducing this Moms Demand Action wetdream legislation for a 10% tax on all firearm and ammunition sales.

I really really want someone to sue claiming the ID requirement to buy a gun is racist.

There was actually an Amicus Brief filed in the instant case by "Black Attorneys of Legal Aid" and several public defenders in both Upstate NY and NYC. This brief alleges that the cost and practical application of NY's pistol permitting scheme and firearms possession laws disproportionately deprive people of color of their Second Amendment rights.

Not quite what you're going for, but may be effective nonetheless.

It's a start. And if it this case goes in our favor and something from their brief is written into the Opinion, that then can be used in later cases to help get rid of other anti 2A laws

Not gonna lie. I'm absolutely floored at the number of Amicus briefs that have been filed in this case.

While I'm not expecting a positive outcome, this case feels to me to be much different than previous cases. Particularly after reading the briefs.

I wonder if there is a count of yay's and nay's for the Amicus Briefs. The volume alone is somewhat encouraging since *most* of them appear to be supportive of enforcing the @A rights of ALL individuals.

It's a tangent; This is an excerpt from the Explanation of S-7196
"...This nuisance poses specific harm to New Yorkers
based largely on their zip code and certain immutable characteristics
such as race and ethnicity. Illegal firearm violence has disproportion-
ately affected underserved black and brown neighborhoods in our cities
and throughout the state despite stringent state and local laws against
the illegal possession of firearms while, according to the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives statistics, 74% of firearms
used in crimes in New York are purchased outside of New York. ..."

So they're using the Black on Black crime in poor neighborhoods with illegal guns they got illegally from outside the State as justification to sue anyone who made or sold anything to do with guns...

Did you watch the video? If you don’t combine, NY can just do a quick tweak and make the case moot, as they’ve done before. This is our chance. All in.

If I'm not mistaken if the plaintiffs had asked for compensation for damages the case would not have been mooted. The court would have still had to establish the right was violated. I don't think these Lawyers are as intelligent as everyone thinks they are. The don't really think outside the box.
