So we had over 400 posts because someone did not like or likes something.

That no one is attending .

For the record, I believe everyone should be able to protect themselves, at all times,

As for special treatment, I believe no one should get special treatment,

No discounts because you are a employee of that company, extra points on tests because of your status etc…

This looks like the same one that was doing security at the New Era Field for the recent concert I attended.

Anyone could have brought in anything they liked.

As far as retired cops, if you had a full carry permit you had almost the same rights before this new law as retired cops. The only difference was a retired cop could carry in NYC( you could too if you get the nyc attachment-special permit ) and we got to keep the magazines for our service gun provided we requal on the gun.
The ability to carry in NYC came about when they figured out that retired NYC officers ( there were more than NYPD who lived outside of the city couldn’t carry in the very city where they used to work and where the greatest threat to them would be). NYPD answer to them at the time was so don’t come back so no special permit addition. A lot interdepartmental and personal rivalry at the time. So they got the law changed .

What law, code, or regulation requires them to respond at any time?
I know multiple central NY city cops, deputies, and troopers that never carry off duty.

so they show up and yell “pew pew?”

Different police departments have different policies . Some say armed st all times . Others say armed at all times except when it would unadviseable to do so— like you can’t secure the gun like swimming or you plan to be intox — Ironically, many departments will discipline the officer if he or she does become intox.
Many off duty cops violate department policies . They don’t think they will be put in a position off duty to need their gun. I knew a few when I was still active .
But if a penal law felony occurs in their presence, they have to take some sort of police action. What is police action? That’s debatable. But not to take action can rise to official misconduct even if “ off duty “.
