I have Lacquer Stiks (solid paint crayons) which I usually use. You rub them over the roll marks and wipe away the excess with mineral oil, alcohol, wd40 or whatever. It's hard to get precise with them though.

For this lower I used regular crayons, lol, just incase I didn't like how it looked it would be easy to scrape out. The crayons will work, but don't hold up to heat or solvents. So once I find a blue and gray Lacquer Stik, I'll make it perminent. Some people use Testors model paint and use tooth picks or very fine brushes to get into the roll marks. I may have to do that if I can't find the right color Lacquer Stik.
Good eye. That's a combination charging handle/cheek riser called the HABU. I watched a couple videos about it and decided to try it. Picked it up from Brownell's.

It was designed to rack like a pistol slide vs hooking the charging handle with 2 fingers or side of hand (designer calls it gross motor skills vs fine motor skills). Plus it's a cheek rest. I installed it last week and used it at a 3 Gun this past weekend. So far I like it as Ican rack it without coming off the gun too far or at all with some practice.

I like it! Costs about the same as as the Raptor ambi charge handle.

I use model paint. I fill it with a brush, not worrying ahout coloring out of the lines. I try not to get too heavy outside the lines.
I let it dry. Thn use the supplied thinner to wipe off the excess. Do not get the Colton too wet our it will begin to soften the paint in the roll mark.
I let dry. Then touch up again. For fun a bake it to help set it up. 180-200 degrees for 15+min.
It is tough to do multiple colors that are close to each other. Best to add second color after baking.

Thinking about doing a true rifle length build for this one. Any suggestions for type of stock? How about barrel length? I'm leaning toward 6.5 Grendel but haven't committed yet.

That charging handle is cool looking! I especially like the cheek weld. May have to keep it in mind in the future. Right now I'm using Sintercore's Tripwire.. I actually have two, his original and the newer one with the Cerakote Elite finish. The new one is very very smooth, the coating is awesome.

My apologies if you mentioned this before in another thread, but is there anything special that you have to do with those faux flash hiders to make them NY legal (e.g. pin and weld or epoxy them on)?
Treat it like any other thread protector here in NY. Since we can't have a threaded barrel, pin and weld is probably your safest bet. Personally I wouldn't use JB weld as you would destroy the device and likely the barrel if you ever moved to real America and wanted to put a brake on it.
BTW the OD of the faux hider is 0.74" so a standard gas block will slide over it if you need to service or replace it.

Just buy another barrel as a "got outta ny" present. They are not that expensive.

Okay, since I started the thead and had all the parts laying around, I guess I'll be the first to show my complete (FrankenBudget) AR.
The FCG is complete crap and gritty. The Thordsen is also pinching the shit out of the safety detent spring, no likey. The BCG is a Spikes Tactical m16 with a Spikes Tactical chrome bolt. The upper is from my M&P Sport( actually perfectly matches the lower), the FSP is a YHM flip up and the rear sight is a Magpul MBUS. The charging handle is the stock S&W one with an ambi latch. The barrel is a no name 1:7 5.56 from @Bullet Guy. I have NO idea what I am going to do with this rifle, lol. I suppose it will depend on how well it shoots/functions. In any case, I am happy I had these parts on hand as money has been tight. So it's always cool to be able to build a rifle like this. When all was said and done, it was a feeling like, "holy crap! I have another rifle!" The same feeling you get when you find an unexpected 5 bucks in your pocket, lol.

So having seen the full build, does the forum logo on the lower look good the way I have it filled or is it too much? right now it's filled with crayon which won't hold up. I like it, but with the lowers I've owned, I've always stuck to red and white for fill colors. I know it's whatever floats my boat, just looking for opinions.

Colors look good. I generally don't dabble in that area (I always had trouble staying within the lines as a kid not much has changed as an adult). Though knowing you and your epic birthday posts I'm a bit disappointed. I would've thought for sure there would be a naked or near naked lady of some sort on there.
I'm going 6.5 Grendel 90% sure on that.

Nice. I always thought some enterprising soul could figure out a way to make a feminine silhouette on the lower somehow. Or at least imprint whale tail or camel toe on it.

I was thinking about a 24" barreled fixed mag for hunting and longer distance shooting. Everything else I have is either 16" or 20" barrel so I need to change it up a bit. Its in our best interest anyway to grab as many lowers as we can now before some pea brained anti 2A tyrant is in the White House in the future.
